Mk1 Golf Conversion

Hi,

I'm wondering whether anyone has previously had a mk1 gold converted to run on LPG fuel. I live in Leeds and get my home heat LPG from northern energy and was hoping to use the same fuel to power my car and obviously to cut down on rising fuel costs. Please let me know if anyone has converted a gold or could recommend anyone in Leeds or the surrounding area.

It is the same fuel, but you need to look into the practical aspects (getting it out of the tank) and the legal side (tax avoidance) before going too far.

The Golf uses basicaly the same system as many Volvo's of the era with the Bosch mechanical K jetronic fuel injection system. The mixer for teh Golf is differnt to the Volvo and it does have some of its own complications.

Some did although a lot of Mk1 Golfs were on carbs, it was only the more upmarket ones that had injection. A carb equipped one would be easier to convert with a simple open loop system, or if you wanted to add a lambda sensor in the downpipe you could go closed loop if you wanted to. Someone was converting a GTi a while back and rather than try to fit the mixer in with the K Jetronic flappy bits, changed the manifold for a carbed version.
