V8 performance

#1 Post by SteveMJ »

I have a VXR8 (6.2L V8 Chevy small block, LS3) that I run on LPG. Last weekend was PVS (Performance Vauxhall Show) at Santa Pod and I ran my car up the strip; both on petrol and on LPG.

So I thought some of you guys may be interested in the result:

On petrol I ran the 1/4 mile in 13.6 s with a terminal speed of 105 mph, on LPG it was 14.01 s at 99 mph. Not much of a difference on LPG :-)

and if you really wanted to spend weeks carefully mapping the car to take advantage of the 113 RON octane rating of LPG, you could probably get it faster on gas than petrol.....

yes, perhaps. But being that I run up the strip so far on average - err, 4 times in 40+ years. I don't see it as a high imporatance for me. Ha ha :-0

The difference may even be closer than that as you could lose that amount of time while on petrol depending how you manage to get off the line. No two starts are usually the same

Out of interest, what system/components do you use.
