Or the gauge has never been calibrated and it always reads 4 LEDs no matter how much, or little, there is in the tank.......

Oh that's just the LPG ju ju bird ! That's quite normal, we have to put up with that, it's just part and parcel of owning an LPG converted car......

(No it's not normal....)

No it's not normal. You've obviously not been here long enough to have cottoned on to Tubb's warped sense of humour. Don't ask me what is causing it though as I've no idea but I'm sure somebody will.

It might be something as harmless as the float arm squeaking as the fuel sloshes about.

Are you sure it isn't the lpg injectors you can hear operating? (they wouldn't be in the boot but mine have always made a chattering sound) Does it stop if you switch it to petrol?

Sticky solenoid, manual shut off valve turned in a bit, burr on the pipework or squeaky float arm.

I geuss i really want to know, are any of those problems serious, i.e. if i just put up with the noise will everything be ok, or should i get it sorted as it could deteriorate??

are there any 'experts' in the east london area who could help diagnose the problem??

by the way, it's definitely coming from the boot (i'm almost certain anyway)

It may be the boot lid and actually nothing to do with the lpg at all. One of the mondeos I've had makes a similar sound as the rubber stops have aged and don't put up as much resistance as they once did. Can you get anyone to sit in the back with the parcel shelf removed and see if they can narrow down where the sound is coming from?

I'm going to record the sound and put it online so one of you can have a listen...ill put the mic in the boot

also, i've noticed i can smell gas just when the lpg comes on and if i have my warm fan on in the car- that's a bit more worrying no?

Yes it is worrying (or it would worry me if it was my car!) the only time you'd expect to smell gas is on refueling. I'd either get someone to look at it or see if you can locate the leak yourself.
