Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
Mercs have a little trick that fools lots of people. If the petrol ECU detects a fault, it deliberately shuts off a cylinder until the next time the engine is started, even if the original fault has gone. The first thing you need to do with the software is run an autocalibration which involves holding the throttle steady while the system switches between fuels and sets the multiplier. No doubt someone more familiar with the esgi system will be along soon to tell you how to fine tune it.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
God that was a quick reply.
That mercedes little trick is driving me mad,im going to wear out the ignition the amount of times its been off and on.
when i do the auto cal i just leave everything alone no rev, lights,or touch the steering.
but still sounds like a tractor.
Thanks again Neil.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
The quickest way to get help would be to post ascreenshot of the ESGI display while running on gas. Else we'll have to get into twenty questions. I'll start with one - what size did you make the injector nozzles?

INJECTOR NOZZLES good question, not touched them so far,so standard.
have run the auto cal until im blue in the face.
just having a lesson on how to do a screen shot then will nip out and have another go.
bit over my head with this so Thanks for the help.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
They are supplied "really small" and require opening out for most cars. This is an RTFM item I'm afraidneilt wrote:INJECTOR NOZZLES good question, not touched them so far,so standard.
Why isn't your supplier helping?

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
2.2 - 2.3mm for the injectors
the fact that injector 3 works ok on petrol but disappears on gas would make me question if the no.3 cylinder is wired correctly.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
Unless the egsi autocal is different to others, I think you have to take the revs up to around 2,500rpm for it to start and then hold the throttle steady while the revs rise and fall.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
its the odd one out as you run auto cal on idle.Gilbertd wrote:Unless the egsi autocal is different to others, I think you have to take the revs up to around 2,500rpm for it to start and then hold the throttle steady while the revs rise and fall.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
ok thanks for advice will drill injectors, and check wiring, then try auto cal again.
what pressure should i set the magic 3 mixer on idle.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
as john has pointed out, the wiring for cylinder 3 (petrol injector) is backwards, need to swap them around.
Then you need to get the nozzles the right size, these are in the injector rail not in the manifold, then do an auto cal, once that completes at idle then we'll talk you through the fine tuning!

leave it at the moment, don't complicate things too quicklyneilt wrote:what pressure should i set the magic 3 mixer on idle.
Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
head in a spin now what do you mean by wiring backwards on no 3.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
ok getting somewhere, just found injector hose on number 3 crimped.
run the auto cal sounds much better.
so it revs ok now without cutting no 3.
so what now.
Thanks once again.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
what "Deflection" did you get after the autocal?
next thing i'd do is hook the laptop up and take it for a spin on gas and see how it runs, this will also then give you the map needed to make any adjustment.
how does the gas times compare to the petrol times on idle?

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
Taken out for a spin on gas, goes but lack of power and k light on.
something going on
cyl 1 2 3 =6.9 ms
cyl 4 5 9=11.7 ms
on gas.
even on petrol its still a touch rich on cyl 4 5 6
set the mixer on 1.40 bar is this ok.
have been trying to do a screen shot but cant because son has gone out, and im @!## on the pc.
could one of the lambda be shot.
both seem to be working on petrol ok,but on gas one goes sky high the other goes lean.
will get my lad to put a screen shot up when he comes in.

Re: Anyone fitted esgi system
Have you addressed your nozzles issue yet, what size (or assortment of sizes) do you actually have????
If you mess with the pressure or nozzles, you should re-do the autocal.

I wouldn't have thought so, but it depends what "working" means.neilt wrote:could one of the lambda be shot.
