Not been using the car much recently due to my back playing up again but about four weeks ago (and for some considerable time before that), Preston Calor Centre at Factory Lane was charging 56.5ppl. Went in a couple of days ago to find that it had jumped up by 3ppl to 59.5ppl

Just got a letter from them this morning saying that prices have been rising recently with no sign of it slowing down so, as of Monday 18th, it will be going up another 3ppl making it 62.5ppl

What the hell's going on and why???

Sept. 11th my local was charging 63.9p
Oct. 8th it is now 70.9p
10% increase in one month.
They're taking the p!$$. and we're too much of a minority to be able to do anything about it.

My local Calor center before 30 sep 59.5, 1 of oct 60.5, 15 of oct 63.9. Price of crude oil gone up to 80$ per barrel. I belive natural gas and LPG prices are linked to the crude price. Only worry is when price of crude will go down price will stay at what it is.

Yeah, I know - I suppose I'm just being a smacked arse but it just narks me so much because of the extra hoops we have to jump through to be able to use LPG in the first place. My conversion cost £1700 but I passed the break-even point a while ago so yes, every time I fill up I am indeed saving money and I am very grateful for that. It's just that when you add in the extra costs such as Flashlube, the annual gas service, the fact that it is neither as easy nor as convenient to find a filling station as it is for petrol/diesel and we usually end up going out of our way to do so, etc.

But what narks me most of all at the current moment is that forecourt prices of LPG are rising but petrol isn't. Round here petrol has been around the 112 - 113ppl mark for weeks now but by tomorrow LPG will have risen 6ppl in a month!!

i live near derby and pay 57.9 at the local asda but 64.9 at any bp stations around my area.

If price of LPG will increase by 10% per month by chrismas it will catch up with petrol.

The price of LPG always goes up at this time of the year because of the people that use it for heating. It then comes down again in the spring.

Just got another letter from my local Calor Centre. Before I go into that though, I should say that when I started this topic I was expecting the price to rise to 62.5ppl but that never happened - there was an admin error at Calor.

Now unfortunately, it is happening. I quote from their letter that arrived this morning:

We wrote to you in October advising you that the steady rise in LPG prices showed no signs of easing and as a consequence we had to increase your price. Since then the wholesale cost of LPG has risen by a further 15% which is significantly higher than we anticipated when we set the level of the 18 October increase.

We cannot absorb the full amount of this increase in product and must pass an element of it on to our customers, therefore I am writing to advise you that with effect from 1 December your price will increase by a further 3 pence per litre plus VAT.

My local Flogas was 59p for ages, then it went up to 62p a few weeks ago even though a Shell station just up the road was still at 61.9p. Two weeks ago, Flogas went up to 64p and the Shell garage changed to 64.9p. The Flogas depot manager said that part of it was down to the price of crude having risen, part down to the dollar/pound exchange rate and, in his opinion, part down to the weather being cold so demand has risen for heating. He expects it to drop again within a couple of months.

Just in case anyone's interested

Went into my local Calor Centre (Preston, Lancs) this morning to beat the 3ppl + vat increase tomorrow, only to find that they've put it up already. After a conversation with the manager it transpires that they put up the price on Saturday - but this is the price increase that should have happened on 18th October. Seems that Calor Centres are franchises (sp?) and it was Preston's own decision to hold back the price rise as long as it could.

He also said that when an account customer gets a letter informing them of price variations, even though it's got his name at the bottom, he knows nothing about it; all letters are sent from head office and he usually gets a letter himself, just as we do, and at the same time as us, informing him of the price change.

So, on Saturday the price went from 59.5ppl to 62.5ppl and head office are saying that tomorrow it will go up another 3ppl + vat, but Preston are again going to delay the rise as long as they can - but it won't be very long in coming He said that the price is rising faster (and I think he also said higher) than it has at any time in the last 75 years!!

Just filled up at Preston and its now 65.9p exactly 50% more than it was this time last year

Shell Ealing has gone for 65.9p/l to 75.9p/l in two months. Thats 15%

a) The Old Girl only manages 11mpg at best
and
b) I've got a Morrisons loyalty card which gives 5X points with LPG.

When there is less than 30 percent difference in price of LPG to petrol ..then will be the time to dump LPG as a fuel for many people ..that takes into consideration ..the worse MPG plus the servicing costs .and inconvenience ....and i don't think anyone converting now will be inline for any savings or reach payback unless they do silly milages....or convert DIY and do their own servicing.

Hmm. Around Basingstoke 78.9ppl seems to be the new agreed price for all the Shell stations.
Total garage on A272 has (in the last 3 weeks) gone from 65.9ppl to 71.9ppl.
As I do up to 280 miles a day my costs have gone up loads (even at 40mpg).
Any comments about "vat increase 2.5%" or "xx percent increase in price of petrol/oil" or even "rising in line with petrol" are (IMHO) moot as the percentage rise should be much much lower unless profiteering is in progress.

I reckon at the start of 2009 the difference per litre was 47p (96 - 49) whereas the most up to date difference was 54p (122 - 68). C'mon everybody, you stand to save more actual money now than a year ago ... ?!
