Can you still use a radiator sealer with a Vaporisor?

I'm wondering what the effects of using this type of product would be.

Can it harm the vaporisor or cause a blockage?

barrs leaks was in my last car ...and is in my present car ...both on lpg

no ill effects .

I have used radweld as I thought the heater matrix was leaking. It turned out to be a gromet that some fool (me) hadn't put back into place.

I have a winter issue where the vapourisor isn't retaining its temperature and was wondering if the radweld may have blocked it.

its more likely you turning the cars heater on before its fully warmed up on LPG.

this Ive found is a big no no....wait till your car hits running temp before you turn the heater on ...and that means not the blowing, the dial that controls Hot and cold

like i explained about two weeks before Christmas

also you can try restricting the heater water pipe so more goes through the vap............in garden centres / pond centres there are little clamp type restrictors that you can put around hoses.

For catch22's 'winter chills' problem, have a good look at the plumbing. We can assume it's the right side of any heating circulator pump or it'd be a 'summer' problem. Is the vap in parallel across the heater, or in series? If series, is it before or after? We might expect it to be a bit cooler in the winter, but if it were running at say 50C in the water jacket it should still work fine.

i have re plumbed mine 'in series' and i get better heater temperatures and ensure heat is in the vapouriser, its on the flow side. this said, at the moment i am having a few problems with the cooling system on mine and do not know if the replumb has caused it or is just a coincidence!! think headgaskets may have gone!!!!

Ross/Mark,

My vapourisor is in parallel and always has been. I see a water temp at the vapourisor of 50c and it is still running a little rough at that temp. When it hits 65c it runs fine until its on boost. I'm replacing the DIS module this weekend as the spark may not be strong enough and its 11 years old now.

New thermostat about a month ago and new radiator at the same time.

Going to look at it this weekend to see what I can do to get more heat into the vapourisor.

Does the temperature in the tank play a major part in the reduction of heat in the vapourisor? I know that the nitrous tanks I used to have used a tank warmer to keep the pressure and temp constant. Are there any for the LPG tanks?

where is your vap...if you have it in the draft ..that wont help.

try blocking some of your radiator off see if that helps .

maybe the new thermostat is faulty

or ..it was tuned by ear in summer weather ....and now it needs a retune to cope with winter .........my open loop on my sierra had to be tuned for both summer and winter to get the most out of it ..
i had to run it rich in the winter to get rid of stuttering and flat spot.....and i could lean off a lot in the summer .

half blocking the rad (cardboard) may help ..also retuning for a hotter LPG switch over will help.

I wouldn't dream of starting my car up with the heater on ..or it blowing ...untill Ive driven 1.5 miles.........which is how long it takes to get to running temp in normal conditions above freezing ............ by turning your heater on in this weather .........IE... round here its been below zero for two days dropping to -5.8c the last night.........in those conditions ..........turning heater on may stop car getting to running temperature for 5 miles or even more or not even reaching it at all. !!!

Morning Mark,

The thermostat looks to be operating ok as the temp is bang on 87c when upto temp. I have tried the cardboard blocking the rad but this does little as the car does get upto temp anyway.

The tune of the car should be ok as I did it myself and it is plenty rich when out of closed loop.

When it runs rough, at the time I believe the vapourisor is running cold, it runs rich beyond belief. This makes me think that 2 things could be happening.

1) The spark isn't strong enough (plugs are at 0.55mm gap and are new)

2) The vapourisor isn't providng enough heat and the gas going to the engine has droplets of liquid and is way too cold.

I may try monitoring this with the laptop in the car if I can find someone to drive it this weekend.
