Shell hydrogen is no more?

Happened to call into Cobham service today, and noticed that the hydrogen refuelling point they only recently installed has now vanished

Only just seen this but I found a newly built Shell branded station in Holland that has only recently been opened. That had LPG, CNG, H2 and EV charging with no petrol or diesel at all which I consider the way forward. Quite a number of filling stations in Germany have H2 as well.

Incidentally, my missus works for Cummins who currently supply diesel engines to quite a number of truck manufacturers as well as engines for large generator sets. At a recent company presentation there was talk about the future and it turns out that they are spending billions in perfecting Hydrogen fuelled internal combustion engines for trucks as they see electric as a non-starter due to battery bulk and weight reducing the overall payload of a truck. That seems to fit in with the Shell decision that the existing H2 sites are too small to cope with artics.

I'd think recharging time also a serious consideration on a truck - you don't want that level of capital sat charging for hours unless you can do it whilst the driver is on rest so the truck is sat idle anyway, and this country just isn't setup for that to work (you only have to see the trucks parked up on the slip road to exit Cobham services to see that a lot just won't pay to park up if they can avoid doing so).

It makes sense that they would want truck refilling facilities - I don't think either there or Beconsfield was setup for trucks to use, more aiming at the few Toyota Mirai that are here, bit rough on anyone who did have one of them to suddenly find with no notice that the refilling point had just been quietly removed.

I'll bang the CNG drum - not that it'll do any good. Hydrogen is on trial for home-heating -Whitby - I think? Might be the push it needs.
