How often should I service LPG system?
How often should I service LPG system?
I have a stag system fitted to an MG ZT 2.5 V6 petrol engine and do low mileage maybe 2 to 3 k a year. Can I get away with only servicing the LPG every 2 years and just replacing the gas filter every 12 months? Car is running fine. I could even do the service myself if necessary as I have the cable and software and know my way around a little bit but don't know what is actually done in a service and the calibration page looks a bit scary!
Re: How often should I service LPG system?
Does the car have a trip meter? If it does a simple calibration check is to look at the mpg figure when running on petrol and when on LPG. If they read the same, the petrol ECU isn't having to do any correction for an out of tune LPG system. Changing the filters every couple of years should be enough with low mileage.

Re: How often should I service LPG system?
It would be wise to give it a once over check of the hoses for any leaks at least once a year (both gas and coolant ones) for the time it takes, particularly if jubilee clips are used as they can work their way loose over time.
Stag does have a service interval setting which can be enabled, which will stop the lpg system working until its reset (it works over time).
A lot of people don't bother doing any real servicing on the gas system until there is a problem with it anyway, though with mileage that low, your hardly likely to wear anything out enough to need to play with the calibration anyway.

Re: How often should I service LPG system?
Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately I don't have a trip meter.
Re: How often should I service LPG system?
In that case you'll have to use an OBD reader. Look at the long and short term fuel trims when running on petrol and again when running on LPG. They should be the same.

Ok will give it a go thanks.
Re: How often should I service LPG system?
Don't make any adjustments to calibration before you've saved the current calibration settings.
