why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 software –
why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 software – too old – what works?
morning all and thanks for looking.
I'm trying to auto-calibrate the omvl xxi n ecu but having installed 6.4 software and attaching cable to laptop it just says 'ecu not connected'. Could it be my ecu software cant work with omvl 6.4 I've downloaded? R01 error code.
Has anybody this system and attempted to connect up? I'm needing to do an auto-cal because I've had some major engine work done last year and the lpg system is running rubbish compared to petrol.
many thanks in advance

Could be that you don't have the right drivers for the cable - is it a serial or usb cable, if its usb check device manager (devmgmt.msc from the run box) - are any devices shown with an exclamation mark or question mark, can you see the lead under the port section? If you unplug and plug the lead in whilst looking does an extra port appear?
Theres 2 different versions of the xxi as well - is it definitely the N version you have of the ecu? if its not then you need the other software.

Re: why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 softwar
Agreed with Brian and this does sound most likely a driver issue.
The 01 error means no connection has been found, as opposed to an incompatible software version. V6 software is usually backwards compatible (unlike older versions of software where ECUs designed for post software v4.7 ECUs won't work with pre v4.7 software and vice/versa) but not in every case. In some cases where it isn't compatible, instead of an 'incompatible' error message you can get the 'no connection found' message but this is unlikely.
Have you managed to connect with the same cable and same pc but using older software recently? Reads like yours is an older ECU but particularly on newer ECUs connection problems can be sorted by pulling the LPG system fuse and putting back in. The following isn't relevant if you've successfully used the same cable before - Does your ECU have a white 8 pin connector (not all pins would be connected) or 4 pin black supaseal connector? If this is a new cable with a black connector and not one designed specifically for AEB/OMVL then assuming this means it is wired for Stag/Kme/etc (which use by far the most common 4 pin supaseal plug wiring) then it may work if you swap the middle two wires over. The most common type of 8 pin connector is compatible with OMVL.

Re: why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 softwar
many thanks for the comments.
my ecu just says 'dream XXI Injection System C'
i'll try and find an earlier version of the software from somewhere.
yhe lpg system fuse. I havent seen that. I'll disconnect cables from ecu at weekend to try n find it.
i have both connectors to try. the usb from laptop connector from the ecu is 8 pin female. but as its been there for 11 years, maybe thats dirty and not connecting?
thanks again.

Re: why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 softwar
Is it the standard 8 pin Molex connector with only 4 pins used as on all the earlier AEB systems? Takes a plug like this?

What lead are you using to try and connect? 9 pin serial, 9 pin serial with a USB adapter or a direct USB lead?
The N software won't connect either as you have an XXi C, not an XXi N, the C is the earlier version. You need XXi C software, often named 21C.

The Correct software should be available from the link below.

Wow many thanks this help people...
Yes, my connector is the 'standard 8 pin Molex connector with only 4 pins used' type.
Lead to connect is usb to 9 pin serial, then 9 pin serial into the above 8 pin Molex connector... which then connect to the ecu adaptor.
I'll download the software provided and give it all another go tomorrow!
again, many thanks, you are helping keep an old Merc alive!

..and the rar file - do I need to put that into a certain folder?
thanks again

Seen all your threads on the same subject, I'll just reply on this one.
'C' system software - Sometimes necessary to have a hardware dongle/key before the software will run or before you can make changes to settings, unless a cracked version.
C ECU's don't have any advanced OBD ability but interpreting figures on screen can help diagnosis.
Does your ECU have a pipe coming out of it (vacuum pipe)? C system internal map sensors fail.
What do your injectors look like (colour of coils etc)? They may be worn out on an old system.
What vehicle is this on? If more than 4 cylinders the install may use an external injector driver, these can go wrong. Or an output channel from the C ECU itself could have failed.
Anyway, you have the software now so will be able to sort this yourself?

Re: why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 softwar
OK thanks Simon I'll check all tonight and update.
This hardware dongle/key - is this from the ecu? No vac pipe that I can see only the 8 pin Molex connector from ecu....could be more tho as its a bit congested around the area of the bay.
Just a 4 cyl car.
From your 'what can go wrong on old systems' possibilities, if I cant get it connecting with the suggestions on here, I'll schedule a
time when I can come down? I'm about 100 mile from you.

Re: why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 softwar
uh oh, windows 10 can't open OMVL 21C.. when I try to open it it says (in Italia) "It not has been detected the connection to the control unit - first stable modification of the connection" - is saying, plug it into ecu THEN open the app? I'll give it a go anyway.
Re: why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 softwar
All AEB software that I've used does that. When you open the app it checks comms with the ECU so if it isn't connected it won't open (or opens and then closes).

I've uploaded 3 pictures to show (from blog site below) the injectors and something else to show exact type of system.. I'm gonna take off ecu now

Re: why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 softwar
That's shown us a very elderly looking reducer and some equally elderly injectors, but not the ECU which is the important bit when it comes to connecting to the computer.

Re: why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 softwar
Looks like you have a separate map sensor in the last pic so there won't be one on the ecu. Thats probably a good thing though. Its the bit with pressure and v stamped on the side of it, next to your diagnostics lead.mrLongstaff wrote:OK thanks Simon I'll check all tonight and update.

Did you check what com port the lead is actually using in device manager? if its anything above com4 it can be hit and miss getting it to connect with some software, this can be altered in windows though. Ideally use either com1 or com2 if either are not already in use.
Re: why won’t my omvl xxi n ecu connect with the 6.4 softwar
Sorry I've been too busy to even get on the forum lately.
Seen the pics, agreed with others comments. The elderly injectors may not be working properly, the old type didn't last anywhere near as long as newer types.
No problem seeing you at some point if you struggle.
