Question re jeep cherokee

#1 Post by acorn2 »

I have a x reg 2000/1 Jeep Cherokee auto 4ltr petrol.

It has a prins sequential injection setup that was fitted many years ago and has been working fine with the odd service now and then.

I have a problem with it needing quite a few cranks to get it to start on petrol which we are working on we changed the CPS but that just made it worst so have gone back to the old one this may or may not be connected to the question that I am asking but probably not.

I have had one of the lights on the dash on for a long time when tested it said that one of the petrol injectors was the problem so I got some second hand ones and replaced the duff one this seemed to solve the problem until the gas is switched on it runs ok on gas but soon after switching to gas the injector light comes on again and will not go out until the engine is turned off this has got us quite baffled.

Can anyone help I should add that its not good telling me anything technical as I am quite thick and will be passing any information over the the guy who is trying to fix it for me

Thanks Pat

This came up quite recently on a Vauxhall fitted with a Prins system. Prins uses a separate injector emulator box that replaces the petrol injectors when running on gas and they fail resulting in the ECU flagging an injector fault.

It's the early type emulator that fails - this is hardwired in via red/black twisted pairs.

Agreed the emulator will be the bit that's gone down.

Side subject and not relevant to the problem but if it were me I would be curious to know why the replacement CPS didn't work as well as the old one, incorrect part?

we are looking in to that at the present time the problem with 2000/1 Jeeps is that some parts are very year dependent even though they may look the same they may not fit or work its a complete nightmare getting the rite parts.

To answer your previous question, there might be 2 of the units fitted, if so the one that's broken will be the one with wiring leading to the petrol injector on the cylinder with the misfire, might cost £60 if you fit it.

I have just been looking around and on another post Rossco said that he is relocating his workshop so that is why I have been having problems contacting him it would be nice if he sees this if he could tell me when he will be back at work.
