Re: LPG injection for cars without electronic fuel injection

Sorry - I've not been clear. The old one is going back on the car it came off. I need another setup for another mag project car - a 1987 Merc 500SEC.

Re: LPG injection for cars without electronic fuel injection

That's true. I think my best bet though is to get hold of another RIS ECU or similar (assuming I can get the software). Can anyone suggest any alternatives to the RIS?

Re: LPG injection for cars without electronic fuel injection

Hi Brian

Yes, I spoke to David at the Autosport Show a while back and we talked about LPG. It would be reasonably simple to set up an aftermarket ECU (Emerald, Megasquirt, Canems or whatever) to run an LPG system and I certainly haven't discounted the idea. But it would mean getting the car's front ...

Re: LPG injection for cars without electronic fuel injection

I'm pretty sure I measured them in the past and they were 3Ω.

Re: LPG injection for cars without electronic fuel injection

Is there a box available that converts a high impedance output to a low impedance one then? I was thinking of using Keihin orange dot injectors.

Re: LPG injection for cars without electronic fuel injection

Yes - I'd replace the reducer anyway. It's the ECU I want to use - simply because it will work without piggybacking.

What other old style injectors could I use? Or are the Romano ones rebuildable?

Re: LPG injection for cars without electronic fuel injection

Thanks Rossko - so the Romano is a rebadged OMVL Dream 21 C then?

I still have the ECU so can probably use it. But the injectors had started playing up. Is there any reason why I couldn't use better ones with it - say Prins type ones?

Re: LPG injection for cars without electronic fuel injection

Evening Gents. Yes - that sounds right. I'm certain the system used a connection from the ignition coil. Thanks. Any ideas about the throttle switch though? I assume that normally the system would connect to the car's throttle pot? If so, I'll mount one - it won't be much harder than mounting a ...

LPG injection for cars without electronic fuel injection

Hi. For some years I ran a 1971 Merc 280SE on LPG. It had a Romano RIS system fitted by a chap called Jess Court down in Kent (he's now moved to France and doesn't work with LPG anymore). Obviously the old Merc didn't have EFI but Jess still managed to get the Romano injection system running and as ...

Re: Romano RiS Software

I've now been sent a Zip file of the Romano software but can't get it to run. Does anyone know how I install it?

Re: Romano RiS Software

Is Mike still active here? I've lost that software and could do with a copy of it.

I've got this working now. The software I was sold claimed to not need a dongle. But it did. I've now replaced one of the files in the software with a version that gets round this - thanks to Mike from this forum.

Thanks Mike!

Romano RiS Software

I recently bought the software for my ECU but I'm having trouble getting it to work. It works fine on a mate's old laptop which has a serial port. But it won't work on mine which doesn't. I'm using an Easy Sync USB to serial adaptor cable which works fine on other software that requires a serial ...

Thanks Ross

I'm told they we need recalibrating, which apparently will cost around £60 for eight of them. I've now bought the software to get into the ECU. Still need to get a cheap laptop to run it on (I only use Macs usually) so once I've done that and rigged it up, do you have any idea what I ...

Well I'm going to have a go at stripping one of them anyway - what have I got to lose? Hopefully the seal will be a standard O-ring.

Thanks. I didn't realise spares were so hard to get for Romano stuff. I have another vapouriser so was planning on simply having two.

Merc 5.6 V8 conversion

Hello

I have a 1971 Merc 280SE that currently has a Romano injection system on it. I'm about to replace the 2.8-litre straight six with a Merc 5.6 V8 from a 90s car. Obviously I need to retain LPG. The car was originally converted about five years ago and it worked brilliantly for 18 months. I used ...
