Chrysler 300c srt8 lpg advice

#1 Post by srt8 »

Hi Guys,
I'm new on the forum and looking for advice on a suitable DIY lpg conversion for my car,

Car is 2007 Chrysler 300c SRT8 V8 6.1 litre with 425 bhp.

Any help appreciated.

I've been making enquiries and a supplier has offered a Bigas system with a RI-21 double reducer,

What is this kit like for reliability and also any thoughts on the use of the RI-21 double rated at 380 bhp, as opposed to 2 seperate reducers.

the bigas double vap is an easy option, and works well. The problem you will face, if the car is going to be driven hard, is wether the injectors can cope with 425hp
Thats just over 53hp per cylinder, which is a big ask for any LPG injector.
We are going to get to the old argument that a system that can't deliver all the LPG at full load isn't up to the job.
But on the other hand a system that can add petrol at high demand makes more sense on a reliabilty level.

Most of the time you will be on purely LPG.

For those that want to know, there are two options for adding fuel at high demand. you can either get the system to switch to petrol after a certain RPM is reached, or you can set the system to add petrol to the LPG when a certain threshold of RPM and injector pulse duration is reached. The second option is better but can take a little more time to set up.

If you search on ebay for LPG Conversion Kit - 5, 6, or 8 Cylinder Sequential KIT you'll find a front end kit which Yorkshire Autogas is selling which has a capability of over 400bhp. Since it is only a front end kit you'll also need the rear end stuff like a tank, sender, filler etc. They'll put a full diy kit together for you for under £900 I would imagine.

I have a VXR8 (6.2L, book says 430bhp) and had a conversion about 18 months ago. I have a BRC system with a toroidal tank that takes about 50L of LPG. I would prefer more capacity, but didn't want to lose space in my boot.

A tank of petrol lasts just short of 3 months (~2200 miles) for starts. I 'suffer' about a 10% reduction in consupmtion with LPG compared with petrol. That is ~18.5mpg around town up to 23/24 mpg on a motorway run.

I view the LPG as giving me high performance at the equivalent of 33 mpg to 44 mpg (or therabouts).

I had 'special' injectors to cope with the higher flow rate for the peak power demands (that is what the installer told me). I can't notice the petrol to LPG change over (just hear a solenoid click, then LEDs change on meter/switch). I don't notice the performance difference, but if it 10% down, say, then 400 bhp is still plenty for me on the street.

I paid £2400 inc VAT for the conversion. I reckoned the payback was about 20k miles, based on late 2009 prices, now that the petrol/LPG difference has increased I must be saving more than originally anticipated.

There were two installers that I could have gone to. MJH in Hertford, who did the work or Hertsautogas, where I have fileld up many a time. Both seemed fine to me, but I had to choose one.

My one complaint is the lack of LPG readily available near where I live or work in Hertfordshire (I posted elsewhere on this forum about this).

I hope this help.
