hi. glad to report all is well with lpg system (astravan factory fit koltec multipoint) and i'm getting 300 miles to £30 is this about right? Also, any idea why the speedo has packed in? its messing up my obsession with mpg

It's a Vauxhall..... I've got an 09 plate Astravan as a company vehicle and things have started failing already. But it has done 40,000 miles so it's probably about half way through it's design life.

That is good mpg . I get 250 miles from £32 on my Zafira 1600, it's a very heavy car though.

not a pauxhall but i can get 300+ for £35 and im no sunday driver

thats impressive especially considering what engine you have!

I get 281miles out of £32 from a 1.4.
I think it should do better though.

At 75p a litre that's 42.6 litres or 9.4 gallons. So 281 miles works out at 29 mpg. Taking into account that you'll always use a bit more gas than petrol, that's roughly equivalent consumption to 35 mpg on petrol. Not brilliant but not too bad.

It's difficult to draw any comparison from the cost spend on fuel as LPG prices vary so much.

I am paying 67p, but there are places selling it for 80p, so saying you've done xx miles from £xx means nothing unless you know how many litres it equates to.

58 in my case.

The 281 miles was done on 40.13litres of gas. Worked out at 31.8MPG.
Following some fiddling with mixture adjustments etc i have now got it to 33.4mpg on gas.
At least it is going in the right direction.
Have recieved a link on another post here to a site with some tips on tuning so will have a go at that and see what further improvements I can get.

my £30 was at 69.9ppl which is 42.9 litres or 9.4 gallons which is giving me 31.8 to the gallon? i can be corrected by a better maths person maybe but is this ok for an astravan 1.6?

30/0.699 = 42.918 litres
42.918/4.54 = 9.44 gallons
300/9.44 = 31.779 mpg

So your maths were pretty spot on. Bearing in mind the usual difference due to the lower calorific value of LPG over petrol and that means it is the equivalent to around 38.135 mpg on petrol. Does that sound about right?

Or, put it another way, 300 miles for £30 is 10p per mile compared with 300 miles at 38.135 mpg on petrol at £1.35 a litre is 16p per mile. giving you the eqivalent running costs of 50.85 mpg on petrol.

but running a van should he not be comparing to diesel prices

Maybe, but it'll still work out cheaper. My works Astravan is a diesel and does around 45mpg and, bearing in mind that diesel is more expensive than petrol, that makes LPG the winner all round.

that's what i meant i run a 2.0 l ldv convoy on gas and when i quote my mpg to people i always work it out to the equivilant diesel price

Filled up my works Astravan today and it's done 491 miles on 47.48 litres of diesel at a cost of £68.80. That works out at 46.9 mpg with a running cost of 14p per mile.

So, in order of cost, petrol is the most expensive, then diesel, and finally, LPG is the cheapest (but we all knew that anyway!).

Just to add for no reason in particular

I got 368 miles from a 46ltr tank of LPG on my Astra 1.6 (around £34).

Works out around 36mpg which seems okay????

PS - Glad I read the instructions which state there is still about 60-70 miles left when the fuel light comes on. Makes a big difference.

Have lost the plot on the maths lol (too tired lol) but i normally chuck in around 45litres and get between 200 - 250 miles (urban - mway) which i think on a singlepoint V6 is good enough, on petrol i would usually get 300 - 350 miles out of 55litres

LPG @ 75p x 45l = £33.75 / 200 = 16.8p/mile or /250 = 13.5p/mile

U/L @ £1.39 x 55 = £76.45 / 300 = 25.5p/mile or 350 = 21.8p/mile

Seems obvious to me

I thought you removed that and fitted a multi-point?
