hi how many miles should i expect from 33L of lpg in a astra 1.6 16v z16xe. as ive just done about 250 miles but wanted to know if that about right

That's probably about right. I've got a 1.6 Zafira, which should be roughly the same but heavier. I usually get around 220-240 miles on a tank. Those figures give you an average of 34.7 mpg, which is very good. My Zaffy will do 29 mpg a motorway run, but often only 20-25mpg round town.

that milage was all on hills so on a motorway driving mite get more wont i lol

I get 250-280 miles out of my 1600xe Zafira on 42 litres of lpg with very gentle driving.

If you are tootling around the empty roads in Wales, you should be getting a good return as you have.

If your figures are reasonably accurate that is.

Best I have had is 39mpg apx. on my EGI system.

The best I've had on my GSI is about 34mpg but that is always with a load.

TBH, 33 litre fill up sounds too little to do those miles to me.

Did you do the 250 miles and then fill up which took 33 litres? This would give you accurate figures.

Or did you put 33 litres in and you've since done 250 miles? If there was already fuel in the tank when you put the 33 litres in that may mean that you you're now running on that, so your actual mpg would be a lot less than you think.

The best way to tell what your mpg is, is to let the tank run empty, fill it to the brim, drive until it is empty again and see how many miles you do on that full tank.

Correctish .. .. tanks only fill to 80% for safety so you should get 36 ltrs in .... IF the filler set up is perfect .. and they often are not ...

33 ltrs to shut off seems within limits to me

The 1600xe engine is capable of crazy mpg figures on petrol when driven gently as are most petrol engines of that size (Ford Zetec and Renault Megane). Over 45 to the gallon is possible if you are stuck behind traffic on a long run which is most of the time in reality. When my Zafira was petrol only I used to get 250 miles from £25 of petrol last year regulary on my trips to the east coast. Around town it can drop to 20mpg though.
In the lighter Astra with the same engine I would say Howy 121 is about right with his figures. This engine has one of the most restrictive inlet manifolds you can imagine and goes like a 1 litre small car.
Friends who have diesels don't seem to do any better mpg wise. Poor old diesel owners, big repair bills, high servicing costs and expensive engine oil, bless em. My friends smell of diesel too.

help needed ive do 60 miles from full tank and now my gauge on tanks saying i got just under harf left. and when it first switch to gas theres a strong smell of gas

Don't trust he fuel gauge on LPG, it goes all over the shot. Often you'll start the car up another day to find it higher than the previous day! It depends a lot on the ambient temperature. I quite often budget on 50-70 miles left once the fuel light comes on. Every time you look at the gauge, just imagine next to it written " +/- 10 litres ".

You're better off resetting the odometer each fill up and going by that. However even then its a bit hap hazard - sometimes you can squeeze 40 litres in, other days just 33 litres... Partly because you don't really know quite how empty you are and partly due to the pump and conditions on that day.

I've given up trying to gauge fuel usage by the tank load, I just trust my Scangauge which gives me a live mpg and average for the trip. Otherwise sum up all your LPG spend for a year and average it out....

Problem there, then.

I had this smell on my Vauxhall on start up. The leak was were the copper pipe joined the reducer. The smell was very strong and suggested a big leak. In reality the leak was no existent while not running and when tested at tickover with the engine on it only showed as a few small bubbles in the gas leak detector spray. I had to shine a very bright torch on this leak to be able to see it.

i how can i tell if its runing ritch or lean on lpg. as it done 100 miles to harf tank and now it on quarter tank 20 miles later that carnt be right can it

Using too much fuel suggests it's running rich or you have a leak and it's running correctly. Does the gauge normally give accurate readings or is it a rough guess as LPG gauges usually are?

New parts do not guarantee bang on.

hi befor i put it all on it made sure it was bang on by testing it first from full to empty and it was reading right
