mk2 mitsubishi rvr with evo 6 engine

#1 Post by zoomer46 »

hi all ,this is my first post !

and looking for some info from the well informed here
as regards my daily runner which i want to make into a more
economically feasible machine,

it has a late style engine (4g63) similar to the evo 6 but with a slightly smaller turbo
and top mounted intercooler,
all rated at approx 260bhp,and is 4wd with a manual 5 spd 'box.

my questions are

1/ does an engine like this need a special system?

2/ what complications are there with a turbo engine?

3/ who is best suited to do this job in sussex area?

4/ how much!?

5/ known conversions on evo's already carried out?

6/ pitfuls of ebay lpg conversion companys?

1, It'll need a sequential injection system that is capable of coping with that sort of power. Most of the decent quality systems will do it.

2, With a sequential system, not many. The gas system ECU adds a correction factor to the injector pulses from the petrol ECU. If the petrol injectors need to be open for 3mS and the gas ones for 4mS the gas ECU adds 1mS to each pulse. As long as the petrol ECU is adjusting the injector open times under boost, the gas ECU will follow it.

3, Dunno, but I'm sure someone will come along with a recommendation.

4, See 3 above

5, There's been a few done but you'd be better off searching the Evo forums as people tend to come here when they have a problem.

6, Most of the ones I've seen offer a fixed price for an installation. This means they are likely to be using something less than the top of the range kit which may not be up to the performance of your car. Some of the cheaper kits that can't keep up are set to switch over to petrol on full throttle or over a certain number of revs which indicates the kit isn't up to the job.

some great answers there,

as for some systems switching to petrol on full throttle its not that big a deal as it has a punchy mid-range and rarely needs the full beans,

i can remember a while there being an early evo lancer being converted and searching through the threads here someone encountered a thread on the lancer register forum about a later evo which got some infantile comments there ,but most evo's do not cover enough milage to warrant the work sometimes so its not a common thing there, tho there seems to a regular supply of scooby lpg's around, but it would be handy if someone here has done a similar conv, as this is my main wheels to work and all things,
i see there is a guy with a t5-r volvo here who has had some problems and i'm keen not to get ongoing problems like that.
is there anyone here that has something similar like a skyline gts that has been converted?

or the fellas down in Rochester, they are a Prins recommended place. Just sprted out my car with a faulty Keihin injector. I use Prins on my 2 cars, both 2 litre turbo engines one putting out 291bhp on gas with no switch over on wot
