Fuel guage

Hello all,
Just had my Renault Grand Scenic converted to LPG by Professional Autogas of Ystrid Mynych this week. Have to say that the guys there give a superb service.

My question relates to the accuracy of the fuel guage. It has 4 lights when full. As I drove home after the fit...

Went to 3 after 30 miles
Went to 2 after 50 miles
Went to 1 after 80 miles
I filled the tank back up and it took 13 litres so the fuel use was ok.
Tank is 60 litre doughnut tank which is going to give me about 400 miles in all.
I've bought a copy of the configuration software to go with the installation so I can play around with the voltage that each light comes on. Currently set as follows:-
Light 4 > 4 volts
Light 3 >3 volts
Light 2 > 2 volts
Light 1 >1 volt

Any suggestions as to what I should adjust these voltages to ?

You will not get 400 miles from a 60litre tank closer 300 miles as 60 litre tank needs to have 12 litres of vapour space to prevent over pressurisation in the event of a fire or accident.

Setting the gauge to give accurate results is virtually impossible.

I had my Megane 225 converted at the same place. I have had a play with the fuel gauge settings but I couldn't get it exactly right. If you have got some petrol in you can just drive it till it runs out of gas, then remember the results.
I have found that I still have over 150 miles left when the red light comes on !
I remember that I changed the "light 1" it was very sensitive and required a bit of trial and error, I seem to remember changing it by a very small amount and the red light went from coming on at >150 miles to go, to never coming on at all

I was going to say the same. From my Tank with a empty to full capacity of 40L, I will get about 230-260 miles on 40L of gas. And thats in a 1300kg 1.4 Fiat Stilo.

With your car being heavier and bigger engine I'd imagine you'd be getting about the same as me mileage wise TBH.

I'm a bit wary of adjusting the voltage settings on the fuel guage this early in the game as when I click on the fuel guage icon on the management software to adjust the settings a big message comes up telling me it will invalidate the warrenty.

How much fuel does it say is left at the mo then?

Full = 4 lights
Goes to 3 after 45miles
Goes to 2 after 60 miles
Goes to 1 after 80 miles
Red at 100 miles.

Am doing a mileage test and am up to 270 miles on a full tank so far - The last 170 miles on red.

45 miles - 3 green
90 miles - 2 green
135 miles - 1 green
180 miles - 1 flashing green
250 - RED (AKA "empty" :p)

To be honest its not the end of the world and I'm just using the mileage to judge the fuel use. Just wondering when I'll run out as I'm up to 320 miles so far.

i fill up on £28 and it tends to give around 340miles before the red light is flashing like a hookers brothel..i like to empty it completely before i refill and this generally happens on a roundabout and it just stutters and wont pull away!! flick the switch to petrol and off to find a lpg garage.

Almost the same with my BRC kit. What size tank you got and what car / engine size you running it with?

70 miles - 3 green
110 miles - 2 green
145 miles - 1 green

An expensive hobby is running out of LPG though. I've only ever done it twice since having LPG fitted in the beginning of Aug. Once thorough mis-judgement of distance to fuelling stations and the other when some silly mare in a KA smashed into the back of my car and I didn't want to re-fuel LPG until the system had been certified safe to continue using.

56 ltrs = 12.2 gallons / 325 miles = 26.4 mpg
Petrol would be 35 mpg = 9.2 galls = 42.1 ltrs x £1.10 pl = £46.37
Saving over 325 miles is £16.13.

I do 2000 miles a month so monthly saving is £99.19. Payback period is 10 months - Excluding additional payments received for company car use.

56 litres costing £30.24 means you paid 54p per litre. Have a look around for a different supplier and you could save even more. I'm currently paying 48p per litre from my local Flogas depot so 56 litres from there would be £26.88. Then you'd be saving almost £20 over 325 miles!

26mpg from 35 is a fair drop, like 30%.... I wonder what the trims are.

I ran an ordinary scenic 1.6 ltr on a BRC system and never got more than 27 mpg from it. I was disappointed about this because the readout from the comp when running on petrol used to say 35-7 on average. I did a brim test and found that the comp lied, it was nearer 32 mpg. I think they all lie so if you feel up to it try that.
