what type of lpg system do i have?

Hi

Just bought a discovery 3.9v8.

how can i tell which lpg system is has fitted? is is sequential or closed loop

It'll tel you on the certificate of safe installation that came with the car .... ah.

Have a look at the dashboard switch for a logo. Have a look under the bonnet, find the gas pipes and hoses, see where they go. If you've a big hose that goes in near the throttle, you've a mixer system. If a bunch of small hoses go in near the petrol injectors, its multipoint.
All disco 3.9 should be fitted with a closed-loop system of either kind.

My 3.9 Disco had an open loop system and ran better, out performed and was better on mpg than a friends with closed loop.

That said i suspect mine was just well set up and his was in desperate need of a tune.

Most likely .. the other possibility is that his had catalysts that still had their innards in place ...

sailed through 3 mots before the chassis rot forced it's disposal so emissions can't of been that bad.

But yes you're right it should really have had some kind of mixture control.

Hi all

yes i do have a mixer system - think its closed loop - has a leonardo control thingy on it.

One problem it does have it cuttng out on gas when hot. it doesent happen all the time but sometimes pulling up to a juntion , dip the clutch and it idles very very slow then dies - restarts and drives fine though? any ideas?

The most common cause is vaporiser aging, causing it run rich at idle. This can be simply adjusted out ... up to a point, then renewal is recommended.

Leo is a feedback / closed-loop system, yes. Do not leap in and twiddle anything without getting a diagnostic connection to that via laptop - see numerous other threads on this forum.
