Hi guys had my astra since just before christmas i noticed a few things and would like advice from other astra owners.

Firstly when you finish filling up and you release trigger do you just get a puff of gas or a gush of liquid gas cuming back out while the tank seals and also when sitting in traffice does you revs waver even down to about 500 revs ?

Your problem may not be as noticable on petrol.

Is it throwing liquid LPG at you on all the refueling stations you've tried?

yes m8 tried other places i learnt to stand well back after the first time as i was covered in lpg and could smell it on my clothes and skin until i had a shower and change of clothes. will try getting housing cleaned but also will call at vauxhall to see what they say as my car hesitates on accleration as well the same as many other peoples astras it seems

You will struggle to find a Vauxhall dealership still supporting your vehicle.

I have found all but one in Derby and they are not cheap.

If your vehicle has the Necam Koltec system installed - it is really worth learning how it operates & works as it is a doddle to service & repair yourself.

See PJPJ profile & his gallery to ID what & where you have the components installed.

As already said - cleaning the system will probably rectify the fault!

Thanks m8 thats my local one as well i dont think i will let them do any work unless i have it remaped i will use my m8 i can do some jobs like change heater plugs spark plugs filters air filter diesel filter but i still like someone esle to do it.

Hi,

Yes, that's your throttle body.

Is that what you are after? Are you going to clean out the throttle body, butterfly and clean out the gunk in the breather pipes?

Yes m8 if i can find out which are the breather pipes lol i bet you can tell how often i work on cars. it looks like i will have to get a manual for it so i can see were everythink is. I will get some cleaner tomorrow for the carb and ,maybe some cleaner to put in the tank.

You should get 'just a puff', however it is a fairly dramatic puff!! and scarey for LPG newbies. Hopefully you've seen some other people filling so you'll get some idea. The quicker you let the gun off, the less fuss it is.

There's a teaspoon of liquid trapped between the filler gun valve and the cars fill valve, which will flash-evaporate when you break the seal.

- However - If you're getting a real squirt of liquid, it sounds like there is a problem. If the one-way valve on the car's filler is jammed, the contents of the pipework from filler to tank will come out too, that's a few spoonfuls more than normal. Sounds like that's what you have. (There's another one-way valve at the tank to prevent the whole thing emptying.)

This sometimes happens as a one-off event if grit or ice gets into the valve seal. But if it's not cleared after two or three fills, the only action is to replace the fller brass valve. Cheap enough, but can be time consuming to get access to rear of filler, and sometimes the pipe is seized on and will have to be replaced too, so it can add up. You do need to get it done though, you need the belt-and-braces safety of both filler one-way valves working properly, quite apart from avoiding smelly trousers ...

Thanks i did think about getting the vavle replaced but its trusting and finding a good garage to do a good job i did see a little video on another site showing a chap filling up a zirfira and that was just a puff of gas when he let go of the trigger but this is real liquid gas that takes maybe 10 seconds to stop squirting out and also squirts back at the car.

Hi,

Funnily enough, I have, today, had to gain access to the back of the filler to replace the cap tether, and I'll tell you now, it was a little rusty. I certainly wouldn't relish tackling it on a cold day.

Getting to it isn't too bad though. Take the parcel shelf off and remove the shelf support on that side (4 Torx screws) then it largely pulls away so you can get behind. Decent quality re-usable clips for a change. There is an access hole but, the filler is slightly lower than the hole.

Also, if your insurance company doesn't mind, here is a how to de-restrict your airbox. This will improve low speed performance a little.

Thanks very much m8 a lot of work for a novice like me i will do what i can and if it gets too much i will take it to my mates mate to let him strip it also does your m8 in yorkshire replace valves. were i live there isnt and people that do conversions and i dont want to pay vauxhalls price.
