Mixer/injection

#1 Post by volvo940 »

I've just got a new Volvo 1998 940 thats got a turbo (lpt)

The old kit is being tranfered for the fourth time,
Lenonardo AEB175 / mixer / Omvl RE90 /toriodal tank

maybe it's time to go injection, whats the best front end to go for, in terms of reliablity/price
and who will supply me, including software, leads etc., dongles are not an option I wish to entertain.

my other option is to disable the turbo.

peter

Hi Pete i wouldant recomend single point on your turbo, plus the kit you have must be getting on a bit, i would go for omvl dream n injection system works a treat , you will need 3mm nozzles, no trouble with software and your lead will fit call fes 08452301819

If you disable the turbo the engine will be as flat as a pancake.

This is because the compression ratio of the engine is lowered to stop detonation.

Drive the car with the turbo off boast and you will see what I mean.

LPG is like petrol when it comes to turbo chargers and carbs do not mix.

A mixer system is like a carb in separate parts .

The only way to get a turbo car to ran right on LPG is injection.

My experience of carb turboed engines is that if the carb is put between the turbo and the engine the turbo will blow the petrol out of the carb unless is sealed and lives in the turbo pressure or the carb is fitted before the turbo which means that the air being compressed has petrol in in which leads to engine knock due to heat from the turbo -- intercooling helps.

The only way a mixer can work is if it is put before the turbo which means the vapouriser will have to pick out a vacuum signal from the throttle plate via a turbo this will lead to no tickover and misfiring and blowbacks on accelaration.

Your tank end will be OK but the front end will need to be relaced with injection equipment.

injection on these is by far the best way to go. The omvl dream works a treat on them.

It is possible to get a turbo engine to run fairly well with a mixer system but its very time consuming to set up.

Robert - the volvo turbo is quite high compression and would still have a fair bit of grunt turbo less. A bit pointless to do that though

can the omvl injectors be dismantled for cleaning and are parts available ?

approx price/offers for a front end?

bob your more confused than I am! the carb would live in the turbo pressure, just a tube from the back of the vap to just before the throttle. The intercooler (my car has) is a major disadvantage, very expensive to replace after a backfire. Gassing before or after the turbo will make no diference regarding knocking

Peter I am well aware of the small hole in the back of the vapouriser a bit like connecting the float bowl breather in a carb to the turbo pressure ( Metro turbo ).

bit missing.

When turbo first appeared in the eighties they were carbed.

This was never truely sucessful until electronic fuel injection appeared.

The Bosch CI system which was mechanical, faired better than carbs but was still not quite right.

The problem was the bit where the inlet goes from negative to postive pressure, the mechanical equipment ( inc carbs) always seemed to lag unless you ran rich. Which is why makers were not keen what with impending emissions regs.

Electronic fuel injection allows the cake to be eaten as well.

The Metro Turbo needed constant tinkering to keep it running glich free. Which didn't matter because the gear box would blow up just as you finaly think you have the plot sorted.

The standard car would kipper the box if one was to drive the car hard, then they added a turbo to make sure that car was driven by "hooligans" and the gear box blewn up even quicker.
