Availability of LPG in mainland Europe.

What is the availability of LPG in mainland Europe, especially Italy? We plan to go there by car as it is getting too much agravation flying, due to security, terrorist issues, etc. By the time you have checked in, security checks, boarded the plane and got to your destination, you can be nearly there by car. Countries we plan to travel through on the way are, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and finally Italy. I can honestly say, the times we have been to Italy, we have not noticed any LPG stations and we were looking for them out of curiosity. A friend of mine has just spent 3 weeks in Italy and I asked him to look out for LPG, but the only "gas" stations listed Metanto, which is methane or Compressed Natural Gas. Now I know that an LPG car will not run on CNG, or will it after a couple of modifications? Anyway, does anyone know of a LPG listings booklet, website, where I could get hold of this info, or any points of interest sites for the sat-nav? Regards, Steven.

Steven, I haven't been there with LPG eyes but it seems strange that they would not have an abundance of stations selling LPG. After all, the Italian Companies are the source of most LPG kit sold in Europe and they started out supplying their home market just after WW2. And PS - Whilst most SGi kits will run on CNG after a rework you will not have the correct type of tank or, for that matter, the correct filler. The filler is deliberately made to be different, stopping folk putting an incorrect fuel into a tank that was not designed to store it.
