Need a top notch installer/repairer? Read this!

I recently bought a '97 Rover 820i with a Lovato system unaware the rough idling & piss poor 37mpg driven gently,was from a "blowback".I visited 2 high profile installers(no names).Each said the system was running rich but they were unable to fix it.They could however install new systems at costs between £1500-£1700! Sent emails to all the LPGA Lovato installers,& received a reply from Keith Woods of LPG2000Ltd.After a chat with Keith discussing symptoms etc. he was confident he could fix this "unfixable" system.When you talk to this guy,you get straight answers,no like the others.Drove to his workshop in Essex today from Wokingham(220 miles roundtrip)purely from the confidence he instilled during the phone call.Granted his workshop is not in the same league as these "expert installers" but by christ does this guy know his stuff. Within one hour,he had diagnosed & fixed the fault with an OFF THE SHELF PART!! The car ran sweet as a nut. All this including labour for under £50!! Driving home,and I don't hang about(4-5000Rpm change ups + 90mph motorway),the car performed A1.Filled up again when I got home and worked out I had achieved 53Mpg. Happy as a sand boy! The trip was worth every penny/minute, unlike the time spent with the "top" installers who are full of shit and too intent on selling,not helping.If you want a top notch install/repair,then give Keith Woods a ring.The other installers might "know" the systems they provide(and how to sell)! Keith Woods KNOWS LPG SYSTEMS (8 years experience).Ignore this guy at your own cost/frustration. So, many thanks Keith...top bloke. 53 mpg ....no-way, never, not on this planet. I have rover 420 and on petrol it does 45 mpg max ..yours has the same engine but a much heavier body around it. LPG usually does less mpg than petrol. Having said that I used to get better mpg out of my 1.8 sierra, than on petrol, when on a run on lpg..it would get 38mpg on a run..and not much less pulling a trailer. And that was set at its summer setting ..had to set it differently in the winter (open loop) or i would be chugging and stalling all the time ...twas effected by ambient temps...winter setting would require me to richen it. Going by your claims ..when I convert my lighter smaller 420 ...I'm going to be getting at least 56 mpg then........he he looking forward ..but I doubt it all the best....mark

The 53 Mpg is running on gas and based on pound for pound costs against fuel, and trust me i am very good at maths. Thought you might have guessed that...what with this being an LPG site !!! Mpg on fuel i haven't a clue. But probably 35ish at best. I used to get 42Mpg out of a 2001 manual 2.0Lx Mondeo Hatch (new shape)!! My neighbour has a '95 Rover 820i with an Emmegas system, drives similar to myself and regularly gets 50mpg+ on gas pound for pound! P.S. The smaller/lighter 420.....same gear ratio? NO Same tyre size?? Same driving style i.e do you get to 4500Rpm in each gear over 30 seconds? Probably. Finally 56Mpg....why not?? Cheers Jeff

Well I have known a lot of people to exaggerate a lot when talking about mpg on LPG. I apologise I mis-understood you .....people don't usually quote pound for pound.. any hows ............. I don't welly my car ........I'm 44 now ,grown up a bit and got boring I'm afraid. As regards fuel consumption when I get this rover done ....not speaking pound for pound.. I would be disappointed if I didn't get more than 38 mpg off LPG on a long run and i would expect a regular average of 30 mpg on LPG and a lowest figure of 26 mpg these are based on what used to get in the sierra except in the winter the sierra could do as low as 21 mpg..with me richening the mixture for the season. FROM THE ROVER...I would expect better than the sierra because engine has 4 valves per cylinder and is more efficient within the mems ecu etc .. and I'm putting sequential system on it. If it didn't after this do at least 42 mpg on a long run ..I would be a bit narked. all the best..mark
