~I know that this forum is in theory LPG only , but it seems that most members have an interest in alternative fuels in general
many years ago , a kiwi friend of mine told me that it was possible to run a vehicle by having a pump which compressed your town gas supply
at night , you plugged into the gas and the pump would fill the tank overnight , cutting out at the maximum pressure allowed
the trick was , apparently , to remember to unplug before you drove of in the morning !

does anyone know if
this system is/was legal in NZ
it is still being done

I see no reason why you can not do it. In most of euro land CNG is more popular than lpg

Up until we moved from NZ (2001) we knew at least one person doing this legally.

Mind you, save Auckland and Wellington not much more of the Country has any gas supply, so you could never say the practice is or was widespread.

It is legal in UK as long as all safety criteria are met and you pay the duty for road use.
