I looked at a local forecourt yesterday - A bruising 90 p per litre for ordinary unleaded, and more prices rises on the way...........

It gets worse ..... If you have their little collecty pointsy card thingy you get 1.5 ppl back to spend in the shop. LPG = 28.4 ppl.

Even the petrol is 6 pence cheaper. Time for a quick calculation on LPG use and at that price I would save nearly £400 a year. Hmm not fair, think my car needs a tune as only getting just over 10.5 to the gallon on LPG. Damian

Damian, You should get a little more .... We bought a 3.9 Classic Range as a recreational vehicle and winter 'lifeboat' as we now live right out in the sticks. It got converted in the first week, I bought as much petrol in that few days as I did for the whole of last year! I'm really pleased with the MPG I'm getting on LPG, checked it full tanks to full tanks 3 times now and getting 15.5 mpg on LPG on mainly motorway runs. Town would be less of course. Beware all, this is a catalysed car so I've been able to fit Closed loop, it does not follow that an uncatalysed car with no oxygen sensor (and therefore no way of fitting closed loop) would do so well. Steve, As to closed loop, I don't know what that is. The system is Leonardo box, with Lovato emulators. There is a wire that goes to one of the Lambda sensors. The other sensor does not have a wire. I have never got really good economy. It has Deteriorated over time. The car does a lot of Lane driving every day and on petrol I recall I used to get around 15 so would expect about 12 on Gas, but alas no. I would be interested in any tips to improve economy as every little counts. I change the plugs, Coil and Dizzy cap on a regular basis as well as the air filter. I am going to plug in the Laptop today and see what that shows. Cheers Damian

Damian You have closed loop if you have a controller wired to the Lambda. Maybe my tests are not a good comparison. Same engine in my car but all 3 of my road evaluations were mainly motorway, where even the Rover V8 cannot help being more efficient. If you are up and down lanes a lot you will not get near my figures, but it should be a little better than 10.5

Interesting as years ago I spoke to RPI in Norfolk who mentioned that with the Discovery I, 300 they had trouble getting the correct economy due to the electrics, ECU etc. etc. but achieved great results with the RR. I have never had great economy with it, maybe as mentioed the best around 12Mpg. Damian

Damian, Our RR was used by my girlfriend for her 3 mile to and fro Railway station run last week as her car was being serviced. I used it to go into Worcester for some long things. It produced a horrendous 9 mpg after using 58 litres. I refilled it and went on a motorway trip of 195 miles and refilled, only getting 52 litres in. This would produce something like 17 mpg. Nothing like this sort of check to show how poor big motors are around town, and only a little of the 10mpg is required to spoil the 17mpg....... Average then equals a lot less!
