Albeit 2014 vintage, I was lucky enough to source a genuine Reg OMVL 89E Rebuild kit.

Broadly the same kit as required for the OMVL R90E, the 89E has one more rubber disc, I notice Memtex kits lack the brass fittings. Rebuilt mine not because it wasn't working, only my reducer was 'New old stock' when I got it. it must have be 10-12 years old. What with the rebuild kit not a lot younger, don't know what I've gained - rebuilt it anyway.

Suspect these are Qs for Gilbert.

1. Does the leaf-spring valve ever fail?
2. Do they crud-up?
3. Or Does any one membrane go?

1. I've never known one to fail and I've been running an R90E on 5 different vehicles over the last 17 years.
2. Yes, particularly after the gloopy gas that was supplied last year. Although that shouldn't be a problem for you running on CNG without the heavy ends problem.
3. Not that I've noticed, they can all go hard with age but I've not known one split.

More Qs sorry...

1) Are you using genuine Reg kit or Memtex?
2) When the rubber hardens, what are the signs?
3) I've had several with different lever heights.

Have you messed with this?

I may have used a genuine kit many years ago but the one I used recently was the Memtex pattern one. I only got it as my vaporiser was well and truly gunked up with the gloop, the only thing that would dissolve it was thinners and I wasn't sure what that would do to the rubber parts. The usual symptom of the rubbers starting to go hard is going rich at idle. I've never played with the lever height as I'm not ham-fisted enough to bend it when taking the diaphragm off. They do say to check it and unless you've got brutal with it there's no reason to suggest it will need adjusting.

Thanks, I've what I think will be a Memtex kit on order. Lever height for me has always been a guess. I've 2 x R89E imported way back. Each had different lever heights, and neither was 15mm or 19mm. Never did get to the root of it, but it works.
