Hi All,

Looking for advice on Lexus please. Been looking for a GS430 as I understand these are easily converted to lpg. They are quite thin on the ground though, so was considering a 450h. I understand there are difficulties with DI, and of course also with the hybrid system.

Is it possible to convert these?

I received an email on this subject (converting a GS450H to LPG) from someone with the same AT initials, I will reply here (and reply only briefly to the email).

Tell us the engine code (because)... At least some of the GS450H's with the 3.5 V6 feature both port fuel injection and direct fuel injection. We can tell if the engine features port and/or direct fuel injection from the engine code.
(1). If the engine features only port injection it can easily be converted to LPG.
(2). If the engine features only direct injection it may be able to be converted to LPG, the 'may' depends on whether or not specific/compatible (for the engine code) LPG electronics are available.
(3). If the engine features both port fuel injection and direct injection then the port fuel injection aspect can definitely be converted to LPG. Whether or not the direct injection aspect can be converted depends on the same as (2). But, if possible, a complete LPG conversion (both port injection and direct injection aspects) will be an expensive conversion because such conversion will involve 2 x LPG ECU's and 2 x sets of LPG injectors (12 injectors).

I believe that the vehicle itself will feature both port and direct fuel injection (as in case 3). I am not sure if LPG electronics are available for the direct injection aspect. I am aware of at least one installer in the past converting only the port injection aspect and claiming good results/savings... but if the engine features both port and direct fuel injection I might expect that the direct injection provides at least 50% of the fuelling on average (so I wouldn't expect great savings from such conversion but it might depend on how the vehicle was driven).

It is interesting to note that the same (or at least very much the same) engine fitted in other Lexus models of around the same year only features port fuel injection.

Thanks, yes that was me. Sounds like I may be better looking for a 430 then- I take it these can be converted no problem?
