Koltec vapouriser

#1 Post by Spids66 »

Do any of you clever people out there happen to know what model koltec vapouriser would be fitted to a 2004 2.4l petrol Mitsubishi Outlander as mine needs servicing and I am trying to find out if a service kit is still available before I strip it all out, the car was sold new with the conversion so it is a 2004 vapouriser.
Many Thanks

The common one is the VG392 though others exist.

Example pic of vg392

Tinley tech (now lpg supplies) list them but are out of stock

Also VG289 are used, though no idea which your likely to have, think this is a larger unit than the vg392

You really need to check the side of it, if it is the VG392 there should be an identifing plate on it. Post a photo of what you can see if your not sure.

Be aware they are not the simplest of units to work on, and likely to have siezed bolts. Also if it has the plastic water coolant elbows they become brittle as they get old and may snap off.

This is the internet, and we're looking at it. With the OP lacking the will to look - and come off it, a seven year old would manage it - should we bother?

If a VG292, Brian is correct. Hard to work on. This by virtue of the studding seizing, and getting the correct O-ring on the main vlave to sit and seal. And making the whole thing gas-tight. It has a central tube which is difficult to get gas-tight. More so after you've fought to get it out. It'll be seized in.

I have a still boxed new one laying about if you get stuck. £120 delivered to a UK address.
If you run CNG, that's a whole other game. The late-type Koltec reducer for CNG is a pig. Kits are usually on eBay.

Later variants have plastic elbows. You'll be lucky not to break elbows. Koltec original are priced-silly and not knowing its thread, you'll order them in from somewhere pricey, courier will be slow and priced... daft. I replaced my elbows with generic brass. Off-the-shelf.

Nope... BSP would be 5 mins and under £4 the lot, these down you local plumber's merchant.

Sadly, it's 3/8" NPT (see my archive pic of my eBay order) which in itself is a pig. Outside of Yankdom, you'll not get NPT easily. At least you now KNOW it's your actual NPT thread, thus not tied-in for a Necam/Koltec part.

You'll need a manometer set-up.
