Vac probs

#1 Post by Marlowboy »

Hi all, just joined, I’ve have had a few LPG cars before including a Range Rover, Mondeo and......a Bentley Mulsanne ( there’s a story there!) and now bought an old, 2002 BMW X5 that has LPG although not working at present. It needs some work but my main concern at this time are the Fault Codes my reader is throwing up.They point to a serious Vacuum leak, not a surprise considering the age of the rubber hoses but before I order and change them, I had a thought! As the LPG is not working (don’t know why yet) is there any way a LPG fault could lead to a Vacuum Leak? Any advice welcomed with open arms!

Theres a vacuum line running to the vapouriser, plus any of the pipework from the injectors to manifold, all of which could be source of a vacuum leak. So yes certainly possible, but easy to isolate too

Vac problems combined with the LPG system not working could point to an LPG system to manifold pipe coming off... But if it's a V8 those engines have a known issue of breather pipes turning to mush (probably due to ethanol in modern petrol) or if it's a straight 6 those engines are prone to PCV issues.
