LPG, MOT, Emissions

#1 Post by 3sGTE »

Hi All,

Just after a refresher - I know the MOT test was changed recently with regard to emissions, but how are cars running on LPG now tested?
In the past i've always told the tester it is running/presented on LPG & it's then been tested to the 'non-cat' limits of 3.5% CO / 1200ppm HC, even if by the book it would have bee tested to standard 1990's CAT limits (<0.3% CO) if not running LPG.

I'm not sure that is still the default case for any car running LPG, Particularity thinking about post 2004 cars.

Cheers,

Yes, it is still the same. MoT testers manual is here https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/ ... class3457/ and the relevant section is Chart 1, section 8.2.1

Thanks all,

Out of interest, when is 'chart 2 - Emissions limits of passenger cars first used on or after 1 August 1992' used in the MOT testers handbook?

Following the asterix on the box marked Carry Out Basic Emissions test. Following the flow chart if you get to that box and the car was first registered after 1st August 1992, you then go to chart 2. Chart 2 simply folows on from chart 1.
