Hello done a couple of conversions now and looking to do my bmw x5 what i want is some advice on fitting in spare wheel well what has other people fitted sizes. also what about the air compressor on the floor and how have people mounted them..

any other pointers would be helpful thank you

there's 2 ways to deal with the air pump, the cheap way is to move it to the back of the drivers side rear seat and bolt it to the seat, the nicer on the eye way of doing it is to move it a little further back and get a separate mooting bracket for it, I have seen 1 pump wrapped in insulation then put in the back corner but don't think it's to healthy personally sure if you use your search engine you will see the mounting bracket from memory there around £80

Lots of ways really...

Pump can be moved to the front of tank, rear of tank, into the offside rear well/storage compartment / make your own bracket and sound insulation system or buy one off the shelf. One of the worst case scenarios - pump is moved above boot floor level and into the luggage compartment (mounted to back of rear seats)... Only seen that done on one vehicle, bodged job.

thanks for the info when you say about moving it to front or rear of tank do you mean taking it out of the metal doam its in or would it fit complete next to a gas tank also is that with keeping the original cables and connections as it doesn't look like soothing that can just be extended

To fit to front or rear of tank it will need to come out of the metal dome it's in, (this may also be the case if you mount the pump in the offside rear wing compartment). The dome not only provides protection for the pump, it is also a sound-proof chamber for the pump (will be louder when not in the dome). Inside the dome, the pump mechanism is mounted on a triangular frame which you can mostly retain...

Un-clipping the piping and wiring from the floor mounted bracket allows further movement.

Even out of the dome, pump is too large to mount in same orientation in any position below floor level - You will need to mount it on it's side (taking care with piping etc). Better to mount it on rubber bushes to help with sound deadening and you may need to cut the frame down so the unit isn't too tall to fit below the boot floor flap. If you solidly mount the pump it will be loud! Use sound deadening material too but don't thermally insulate the pump cooling fins.

You may need to extend just a couple of thick wires from the loom at the rear, not necessary to extend the piping but some piping may need to be disconnected from the pump to prevent pipes getting twisted around each other. Pipes are easy to disconnect from / reconnect to pump unit, they attach using push fit type grommits.

If you install the pump to rear drivers side of tank you will need to cut away some of the black plastic wheel chock bracket, space is very tight. If you install to the front passenger side of tank, make sure the jack is still accessible, space still tight but not as tight as when pump is fitted at rear.

Better to fit the pump into the internal rear wing void, where it will be quieter. Black plastic is easily removed, when removed piping and wiring can be run underneath it into the void.

Where are you running LPG tank pipes through to the tank..?
