I didn't check or take much notice of the package when it arrived as I was rather busy, but a bit later, while fitting a tank on a vehicle, it dawned on me that the package seemed dubiously small to contain the bits I'd ordered including a roll of 8mm (6mm ID) equivalent Faro pipe..
So I thought I'd better check the package. The other bits and bobs arrived as ordered but instead of a roll of 8mm (6mm ID) Faro pipe, I received only 1metre(!) of the smaller 4mm ID(!) Faro pipe and the receipt reflected I'd ordered only 1m of 4mm stuff... Well you food king door handle heads...
As if I, or any pro, would order 1 metre of Faro pipe
What I can only think happened is that the guy who took my order, who I know isn't himself daft when it comes to knowing the trade, made a mistake when entering my order. OK fair enough, this will happen from time to time, especially when after discussing Faro pipe you start talking about Digimax systems etc. But he then must have passed that order list on to his bird or someone on a YTS who doesn't know the crack when it comes to LPG at all, who followed the list without question.
Time was pushing 415pm when I opened the delivery. I tried to call said supplier repeatedly but their line was engaged. I have the gaffer's number, but thought he'd probably be in Poland or somewhere and advise me to phone the shop landline... and, in any case, at that time this supplier probably wouldn't be able to get an order to me for the next day anyway. Worried, now, that I wouldn't have piping around (without checking - no time to!) to finish my current job, I phoned TinleyTech and ordered some Faro pipe.. Because I know when I order from TinleyTech the correct order will arrive. I always have doubts when it comes to ordering from elsewhere. 1m of Faro pipe indeed.. This scrap is still on the floor in the yard beside where I opened the box. It may still be swept up when I sweep the yard after this job, or I might frame it to remind me of the pros and cons of various suppliers next time I depend on something arriving the next day and maybe think such a simple thing would be difficult to get wrong...
As it happened, luckily, I did have enough Faro pipe around to finish Sir Henry's conversion today, I found multiple lengths up to around 2.5m. But the lengths I found were only sufficient because Sir Henry's install has 2 tanks, so pipes only have to run as far as T pieces around the middle of the vehicle...
TinleyTech's order arrived correctly as usual, so if worst came to worst I would still have been able to finish Sir Henry's install today. But I can only think other firms must employ un-informed people that don't question mistakes on picking notes like, for example, only 1m of Faro pipe, on an order from a pro... That's like a baker going to Tesco and ordering a large bag of raisins, the manager of Tesco who knows the customer is a baker interprets the order as 1 singular raisin, and then sending a singular grape through the post instead...
I am known for writing too much and this post will live up to that... But part of the reason for that is because I like to make sure I am being clear. Just in case anyone got the wrong message - TinleyTech didn't fook up, others did, so then I ordered from TT to make sure I got stuff here on time. At the time I ordered from TT, it was either order now and be sure stuff will arrive tomorrow, or check stocks to see if I actually need to order but make it too late to order. But as it happened I had enough pipe knocking about anyway.
