replacing a romano fuel guage.

hi,
my dash mounted romano lpg fuel guage lights keep cutting out and it doesn't switch over. we tap it and the lights come back on, then switches over, but it seems to be getting worse so i want to replace it. is it an easy job or is there alot more to it. it does seem to be really stuck to the dash. does anyone know how to do this.
it is on a bmw x5 4.4

On your X5 you must have the sequential Romano system.

AEB manufacture the electronics for the Romano sequential system and AEB systems use the AEB199b fuel gauge / changeover switch. You can buy one from Tinley Tech here http://www.tinleytech.co.uk/acatalog/AEB.html

Your switch will be stuck in place (self adhesive at the rear), there is a small white plastic wiring connector at the rear - carefully unplug the white connector, peal off the protective strip at the back of the new switch (to reveal the self adhesive sticker), plug in the white connector and push back in place. If it doesn't stick well, wipe the back of the switch and the area of the dash covered by the switch with a cloth dampened with thinners and try again. But don't wipe outside the area that will be concealed by the switch with thinners!
