What model Range Rover (P38 I think from the other forum) and any idea what LPG system you have? One easy test you can do is pulling the petrol pump relay when running. If the engine splutters and dies then it's on petrol, if it carries on running normally, it's on LPG.

Would you be able to smell if it was on gas from exhaust
than on petrol

Maybe although it would only be really noticeable if it was running rich so you get unburnt fuel out of the exhaust. Fuel pump relay is the single one at the front of the fusebox, nearest the battery, roughly in the centre, RL12.

Contrary to popular belief, often the only way of knowing if you are running on gas is to look at the switch. If anyone tells you that it will be down on power, will have a permanent Check Engine light on or any of the other ills often attributed to LPG, they are wrong. It should not be possible to tell the difference simply by driving the car. In fact, mine is smoother on gas than on petrol but I put that down to the petrol injectors suffering due to lack of use.
