Have bought a 1998 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee with an "AG Autogas" kit fitted in 2002 - not running nicely, I doubt it's been looked at by a pro in years. Suspect the reducer needs new gubbins, but a newbie to LPG so no idea where to start!

Well, I've found a bloke who has all the kit to sort it out - the software, spares, etc. Sounds like he is out of the installation game, he apparently works on cars at nights - so I'm going to see him on Wednesday. Won't give his name as I'm not sure what the forum rules are on advertising etc. but will keep you up to date with what happens!
Apparently I have an A.G. Autogas SGI2 system, he was able to tell me that over the phone with just a quick description and no part numbers - so sounds promising!

Wait until Thursday and then you can name him. Recommend him if he does a good job and to warn others if he doesn't! There's no rules on here about recommendations or naming and shaming you just have to be certain that what you post is accurate. If you say someone did a carp job, then you have to be prepared to back it up with facts and not just that you took a dislike to him.

Fishing with gas

Well, just spent a mad half hour searching for all the replacement ignition parts "the man who can" may need - gracefully scattered round my front room amongst the rest of the junk VW and Jeep parts that live there - found 6 new Autolite platinum single electrode plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm, and HT leads.
No idea what state the existing ones are in as it's always dark when I get up since I got this Jeep a couple of weeks back, and darker when I get home, but thought I'd bring them just in case. Hope it's not expensive news...

Well, I went to the fella last night and he is very amicable, and seems most knowledgeable. Spent a couple of hours looking at the system (no charge, seems to enjoy it as he is no longer doing installs really) and it has been properly messed about with, plugged in his computer, and it was showing the right car - but only 4 injectors. I have six. Someone has been twiddling with it - the reducer is putting coolant into the gas, so is a write-off - but he can get them, and in fact has old ones he can rebuild. It's a choice between him re-wiring it properly, and getting a new front end kit - he is going to ring his suppliers and see what they can do on the "REALLY do not want to spend a lot of money" end of things. So no final verdict yet.
I suspect a cheap front end kit will be my answer, as I take this thing off-road and they do get a knock or two - my previous (and still here) Jeep looks like it's been brawling with a bare-knuckle fighter.
Time will tell, so I'm not going to give a verdict yet... but he seems like a really nice fella, and no bull - just "What a rat's nest", which is true!
There was even some old 2-core lamp cord in there, taken from someone's house!

Well, I finally got round to having the front end kit fitted - fantastic. It's an AEB economy 6 cylinder kit, from the fine men at Tinleytech. The jeep was cheap, so I didn't want to spend a fortune on an expensive setup - just wanted one that worked properly!
The fella did a brilliant job - the engine now runs quieter than it ever did on petrol, he fixed a few problems with the petrol system as well, which were causing it to backfire loudly 3 times in rapid succession when running cold on petrol - not good when you live in Northern Ireland and are driving past policemen...
His (maybe 5 year old) daughter found a coolant leak in the top hose that I'd been looking for for ages. He has set it up perfectly, and it purrs like a kitten at idle, starts on the first turn of the key, and I can't detect any power loss at all.
All round, 10 out of 10. Spent ages talking me through how to alter any settings I wanted to and explaining what he had installed, how, and why.

Really likeable guy, has a loft full of spares for everything, and REALLY knows his stuff. Extremely tidy installation. Altogether highly recommended!

AND this morning - it started straight up on gas, despite the screen being iced over - no need for petrol at all! A couple of quick blips of the throttle and it settled down to a perfect steady idle - brilliant!
