So both the chaps recommend on here for LPG install in Scotland have let me down, never got back to me, obviously don't want the work. so my options are

Chevy G30 5.7l v8 single point injection

1) Forget about LPG
this would mean not using the van as much, when i would like to use it more.
2) Take a shot in the dark at other scottish LPG installers
could lead to all sorts of problems
3) Travel down south to some of the senior guys on here to do it
Lot off hassle and additional expense
4) Take this on as a project and spend the next year acuiring knowledge to do this myself.
big learning curve


the only options that are appealing to me are 3 & 4, with 4 being my preferred option. so my question is with proper investigation and guidance form guys on here is it a straight forward install if you are quite handy around cars. if so would it be worth while/cheaper buying a donner van that has the kit installed like this

strip out the kit and sell then van on. if not can i readily source all the new parts i would require? are there any good guidance documents out there to look at. I would consider this obviously to be a big job for me but im sure its one i could manage if not rushed and sure i would enjoy it. or would it be just better to bite the bullet and bring it down south and get it done professionally with proper insurance validation.

Your missing one option. Come down to mine, stay over, make tea, sweep up and help with the install. That way you know it. Still a big learning curve. But you have someone there who knows what's what.

Tubbs's option sounds the best to me. I wouldn't risk trying to use a secondhand kit taken from another vehicle. To start with you don't know if it really is suitable, chances are you'll break something taking it off and it may be on it's last legs anyway.

at great cost and effort getting to them i phone, arranged then visited then phoned again

yes Gilbert all good points that would be a concern

Short of doing it yourself, with the delay that would introduce, I'd say Tubbs offer sounds good. Bying an existing project just to learn from it is also not such a daft idea, provided you have a decent chance to recoup the original cost of the vehicle -there's no substitute for hands on experience.
My learning curve took weeks, and did indeed delay my project, but now I know my install inside out. Having it fitted proffessionally was not an option since there were so many parallel issues with my mgv6 it would have been silly. Finacially though I guess there wouldnt have been much in it.

em prob not, the vans not ready yet to use for it intended purpose so dont think id have done enough miles in it by now. As ill be keep the van then i have plenty of time for recoup but i take your point Dai. It is looking increasingly like ill need to bring it down to one off you guys if i want it fitted.

one thing i have learned is i will need as big a tank in the back as possible .If this is the case are there likely to be any hitches ie parts, id hate to make the trip and then for somereason it cant get fitted and i have to return home.

Few of us keep much stock, certainly not of wierd and wonderful tank sizes. You'll be wanting to specify equipment beforehand. Catch-22, you need to be familiar with hows and whys to specify the correct kit and sizes...

yep appreciated rossko, what i was meaning was if i get it booked in could the parts be ordered and everything in place before hand (obviously would put deposit down).

I keep a few tanks in stock. Were you going for the tank under the rear seat/bed if so I keep that exact size tank in stock. Most parts are obtainable with little notice

yes basically as big a tank as i can get under the bed, i put my mum in for scale lol

You will get a very big tank in under there no problems.Depending how big you go but a very big tank will need upgraded rear springs

how big a tank can you get, its a G30 which a 1 ton van so every thing is alreasy beefed up on it, shoudl be ok?

You should get a minimum of a 140ltr tank in there if not even bigger (between the wheel arches).
