Help this is getting near suicidal now, I have a stag system which I'm trying to configure, (different thread going).
Anyway I have the controller software wer 1.11 whcih require ths 1,14,x diagnostic software but this software keeps freezing, I have reinstalled it a few times and exactly same result, I was working ok prior to this, I even installed it on another laptop which has nothing installed,(fresh installation) The only things I have running on this is the driver for the usb/serial lead which as far as I can tell is called 2303 driversetup by macrovision and avira antvirus. On the previous laptop I am running avg so cant see the problem been the antivirus software. when the software hangs it just sits there with the waiting hourglass and when you click on the red x all you get is this program not responding, so you have to do a hard reset ie switch off and back on to get out of it. Any ideas? Gents.

Re: ac gas sycho 1.14.1 keep crashing (stag 300 software)
Sorry mate, cant help, but i just thought i would share your pain
All these usb converters are flaky TBH. Work sometimes, not others. Or end up giving you spurious readings. See we are actually addressing the chip with all this software. Thats what you are seeing, plain and simple. Cars are serial too. Thats why we run serial interfaces, the PCMCIA serial converters are supposed to be ok. I have had an absolute mare over the last few months with computers. 1 laptop i had just stopped connecting through the serial port, new lead, still the same, another new lead still no joy.
Managed to find another laptop with a serial port, loaded all the software on, power supply packed up.
Mate got me an IBM thinkpad, ran a car through calibration with it, halfway through road test, serial port decided not to connect......another lead, no joy.
All in the space of a few weeks. Honestly i was actually suicidal by now. Actually turning conversions down.
So i bit the bullet, panasonic toughbook, xp loaded and a serial port. And all is well again in tubby world. Someone told me it may be to do with leaving the laptop on top of the battery under the bonnet.
Running the hard drives under constant vibration, addressing the same bit of the drive all the time.
So a SATA drive is a must, and a serial port.....dont see many like that any more, except toughbooks. They still have it all. BT and the military have serial everything. Its more stable than flaky usb converters. Sorry i couldn't be any help though.

You are much better off with a serial port rather than a usb converter or USB lead.
Some driver software do work better than usual
Does it run perfectly ok if not connected?

Re: ac gas sycho 1.14.1 keep crashing (stag 300 software)
The software runs fine, I installed it on a borrowed laptop this morning which has win 7 installed, I plug the lead in and the laptop connected to the microsoft site and loaded the driver from there, I wanted to be certain the problem wasnt the driver that came with the lead since that was the only common factor on the 2 previous laptop, these are running windows xp so I had to use the drive that I had with the lead. I connected and try an autocal but number 1 cylinder switch off after 10 seconds which is what it was doing all along, anyway I switch to map to see what was going on, this is the screen where it always freeze on the previous occation. anyway As soon as I try to change the multiplier I loose connection. The impression I had and this just confirm it is that the software is waiting for data from the controller which its not getting. so my conclusion is that its the controller thats dodgy, I always suspect it but had no way of proving it since I dont have another one to compare with, I had contacted the seller, I bought it off ebay and he was saying it was a working system that he took off a car, I thought I was getting a bargain since it comes with the brc genius 1500 but there you go.
Re: ac gas sycho 1.14.1 keep crashing (stag 300 software)
It depends what chipset is used in the USB-serial converter, if you get the correct one, it will work, if you don't it might work sometimes (just enough for you to think it is something else) or not at all. Never known anyone have a problem using a PCMCIA to serial adapter though but they're not cheap (compared to a USB-serial) and are only any good if your laptop has PCMCIA slots which I note a lot of the newer ones don't.
As an indication of how good and sought after they are, my elderly Panasonic Toughbook with a 600MHz Celeron processor, a whole 256mb of RAM and a 3Gb hard drive would still fetch the best part of £400 on eBay but it isn't for sale, it's far too useful!

I'm well chuffed with mine. Cf29 1.6 ghz chip. 2gb ram. 150gb sata drive. Ex bt. Touchscreen and the little wifi antenna. Second hand obviously. But the battery holds a whopping 8 hr charge still. And I bought a 12v power supply. Hopefully that will do me. Last one a cf27 did well over 10 years. It was going from 2000 pro to xp that finally saw it off. Lost the bloody serial port ! Reloaded drivers. Even pulled it apart and pulled the bios battery. Very sad ! Still made £200 on eBay.
