ZENIT AG AUTRONIC LPG Vauxhall Agila 1.0 3CYL problem

#1 Post by frogsuk »

My old Vauxhaul Agila 2005 1.0 3CYL was converted over 50k by Pete at P.J. Autogas (where has he gone? The phone lines are now dead) 50k miles ago and has been going brilliant and serviced regularly; then a problem occurred the other day:

The LPG turns off totally after about 5 minutes of running; all the lights on the switch go off... and it runs back onto petrol. The switch does not respond (no lights on, just seems dead) until...

I turn off the engine and the LPG system seems to reset after about 5 minutes and the switch lights start flashing i then start the engine again and it switches automatically over to LPG and stay on then 5 minutes then LPG system switches off again (No light, no buzzer, no nothing) and the car switches back to petrol...

The Matix Filter was changed 2,000 miles ago and I changed it again yesterday as well just in case... the old filter is like new. The LPG tank is 3/4 full and gas is getting to the regulator.

Any Ideas what may be causing this...

The car runs smooth and well on petrol and LPG with no problems with lack of power or lumpy

I have ordered a new diagnostic cable as the old one no longer works due to wires getting trapped :( but am waiting for that to arrive from Poland then I can run it up on JZ-2005 - 2009 to see if there are any fault codes noted.... Never had any before...

Any help would be much appreciated to get the old girl back on the road... Car now in Carmarthenshire

Could be earthing issue amongst many other things. You do realy need the cable, it would have been much faster to order one in the UK surly!

Thanks for your reply... That's Fleabay for you  ... I have been assured the cable will be here Thursday the latest.... I'll just have to hang on until then. I've checked all items are earths (I think all) fortunately I have a backup of the MAP etc. to compare present (eventually) readings with when the cable comes...

Shame Pete at P.J. Cars Autogas is no where to be found but his website is still live... he knew the system very well

Hope you get it sorted out.
Yet another cheap and cheerful non UK business that sets up, undercuts the local installers, does shoddy work with the cheapest of cheap equipment then packs up and disappears leaving a stream of warranty work behind him !!

I'd find out where the gas system picks up power and earth (at the battery?) and check those connections/crimps, follow the power through to the fuseholder and check that out for green etc.

The website is still up but hasn't been updated for a while (LPG at 58p) although will disappear in April when the domain expires http://www.whois-search.com/whois/pjcarsautogas.co.uk

With wages and standard of living in Poland rising until it is not much different to here, quite a few I would think. It used to be the case that East Europeans came here because there was work which paid far more than they could earn at home. Many would earn as much as they could to send money to family back home. Now wages in those countries are coming into line with the rest of Europe so there's no point any more.
