Hi guys

I joined this site a while ago but have only just picked up my first LPG'd car, the above Jeep with an OMVL dream system

I'd like to change the filters in the system as the previous owner hasn't changed them for a while but have no idea where they are located, can anyone advise? Also which filters do I need to buy? I'm handy enough technically but haven't worked with LPG so any advice is helpful.

2 filters that you can change. One is on the vapouriser and should be the bigger of the 2 OMVL liquid filter. The vapour filter is mounted in the vapour line line between the vapouriser and the injectors. You could have either a 1 in 1 out filter or a 1 in 2 out that replaces the Y peice.
Some under bonnet photos would be a good start to guide you on what you need.

You will also need a safety talk before going ahead. Gas is very cold, especially the liquid phase. And it will burn you if handled incorrectly.

I did see one on here once with pics and everything.
The basic upshot is the vapour one (feeding the injector rails) is no biggie. It will loose whatever gas is in the pipe but its only vapour. Obviously outside, well ventialted area and not over a pit !
The liquid one is an entirely different story. If you dont know the history of the system then it could have had problems with a solenoid and the plunger removed. So you need to turn the tank off and get it as run out of gas as possible. So to turn the tank off, on a single hole its just a question of either a lever or a gnurled nut on the tank valve. Run on gas until the gas runs out. Goggles and gloves and a 13mm socket on an extension bar. Undo the filter solenoid nut. It may go with a pop so keep your handies out the way. Remove old filter and replace with a new one. Pay attention that the seal ring is in place before refitting. Start car, switch to gas, check for leaks. Make a brew and congratulate yourself on another LPG service sucessfully completed !

Gasit.co.uk sell the genuine omvl filters. You could use a pattern gas phase cannister but their pre-filter (Valtec) comes with the seals which is unusual in the lpg filter world. You can re-use the rubber seals but the copper/rubber one which fits on the 13mm bolt will not usually work again. Halfords do a selection of copper washers if you use a pattern pre-filter.

It looks like the Y peice has been fitted the wrong way and has to back flow to one of the rails. Either that or only 1 rail has a filter!

Sorry to drag this thread up. With the weather being so rubbish I've not had a chance to change these filters yet but I guess I'd better get it done.

Is this the kit I need to do it?

Yes but the cannister filter needs to be fitted to the pipe that feeds both injector rails so it needs to be on the right of the y-piece.

Thanks for that. It makes sense. I think. Am I right in saying it should go vaporiser-filter-y piece then?

FINALLY got round to this, other cars keep getting in the way to such an extent I had to jump start the Jeep from my 1986 XJ6 as it had sat for so long. Took it a spin and then turned off the LPG tank in the boot. Or tried to. Turned the knob as far as it would go and it's still running on Gas 5 minutes later. How long should it take to run out? I'm nervous about over tigthening the knob on the tank in case it breaks

I think I'm right in saying that some multivalves have a manual shut off on both the inlet (fill) and outlet sides. You may have turned the wrong one off. I can understand a solenoid valve having it's innards taken out so it is permanently open but not a manual valve, it's only a tap......

You cant take the innerds out of the manual valve, however the nylon seat could be damaged or moved, there could be muck in there stopping it from seating.

If only ticking over it will run for some time on a pipe full of gas.

You do need to tighten the valve a fair bit and the valves with a built in solenoid only have a manual valve for the outlet so should be the correct one.

Sorted now guys. Eventually gave up trying to run it out of gas with the knob in the boot, there was no sign of the solenoid either although I could here it clicking. In the end pulled of the connector on the vapouriser and it conked out straight away. Filters changed, for I suspect the first time in roughly 100k. Vapour one was a bit scary but thankfully the escape of gas stopped after a few seconds. Too many for this newbie mind...
