What LPG System works with NON-SEQUENTIAL 6 cyl?

#1 Post by sportston »

It has been suggested that my BRC system could be incompatible with my old car with an old motronic non-sequential electronic injection system.
My car has all six injectors supplied by one signal wire (Full bank pulsing. Two identical pulses per revolution).
The BRC system only gives the option for semi-sequential or fully sequential.
What system will work with my car?
And will it work with BRC injectors or do I have to replace those too?

I fit AEB with full group injection cars normaly. I've converted a lot of Volvo's and BMW's that run motronic injection without any problems at all.

The BRC system should work, I have you spoken to BRCGB to discuss the problem?

No I haven't. I plan to call them tomorrow. I have a feeling they will not be too interested in helping unless I want to use one of their own approved installers and this is a DIY job. But it is worth giving them a call as I have nothing to lose.

Do AEB ECUs plug into the same loom or do I have to get a whole new system?

You will need a full system and have to re wire it in.

Oh crikey! I don't want to do that unless I have to. I might try and find a different way around it then. I don't want to go through all that again.

The AEB ECU may or may not work very well with BRC injectors too, and certainly won't like BRC dash switch or sensors etc. If yer gonna swap you probably want the whole shebang.

I have to say say I don't think I've ever done a 6-cyl (or 8-cyl) car that was a true single bank with any kind of LPG injection system, wouldn't like to guess which ones will work for sure. Even old Jetronics were banked after a fashion.

Does it actually not work? Does the LPG ECU actaully care if all the injectors are fired at once, I understand they just copy what the petrol ECU is doing with a modifier value.

You would have to make all six electronic connections to all six petrol injectors but you'd have to do this anyway?

I'm no expert just thinking out loud, but my 6cyl bmw E30 is dual bank motronic, and single bank with the ignition pulse sensor removed.

There is no option for BRC injectors in any version of AEB software that I have seen. There are some options for 2ohm injectors with AEB but no idea if the peak and hold would be correct.

Almost all 4 cylinders system fire all 4 injectors at the same time.

D jet on 6/8 cyl can fire in either goups of 2 or 3 or 4 but run a switched live
Motronic normaly switches all cylinders at the same time
The various L jet systems tend to switch in groups of 2 or 3

AEB never has a problem with any of the systems (other than D jet where it will not work with the switched live) but firing all cylinders at the same time does not cause a problem. On fuel group 8 cylinder engines it is not a good idea to use low resistance injectors as they can cause higher ECU tempratures.

I was looking at that ECU earlier this evening.
Will it work with brc injectors and a brc reducer?
I like that I have a fairly good quality reducer and injectors and wouldn't mind keeping them.

More important does it have the best stratergy for running full group? When you select full group in the software does the ECU change the way the injectors are fired and if so how?
As far as I know only AEB and KME have the best method of firing injectors with full group.

I do not know whose method is best, but i know that LPGTech working well with full group injection.
Cheers

Hi i have just spoken with main technician in LPGTECH, he said that full group settings will work only with slower injectors like 3ohm Valtek, because on full group injection engines, injection times are very short 2ms that is why full group setting will change the way the lpg injectors are fired, injectors are opened twice longer to be able to work properly .
With faster injectors like 1.9ohm BRC/HANA/Kehin /Barracuda, system should work as sequential those injector are quick enough to work with full group injection engine.
Any way LPGTECH will do the job . you just need to try it while calibration , which way is better for your engine.
i hope it's clear enough.

Sounds like they have included the correct feature to double the injection times and filter out the second pulse. Worth using regardless of injector type.

Its ok I found a way around it.
I piggy-backed 1,2 and 3 with 4,5 and 6.
Then told the ECU that it was a three cylinder car.
Problem solved. All six injectors now pulsing at the same length.
I've still got to do a bit of fine tuning but it drives much better and is no longer lumpy at idle. Tomorrow I've got to fill the tank up and retune her.

I would imagine it is not compatable with full group systems over four cylinders. It could be an ECU fault. Either way I don't care so long as the car works ok.
But it is worth noting that buying a second hand BRC system for a car with full group injection with over four cylinders might cause problems.
