cuts out when switching to gas

my 3.9 carb'd 101 landrover refused to switch to gas yesterday from petrol, it just died. So i switched back to petrol, tried it a few times but still no luck. Have checked the solenoid's and paper lpg filter all appear to be functioning ok. wondering if maybe the vapouriser is at fault. It will fire up on gas now for a split second then cut out.

Check your rpm feed. On older systems we used to coil them round the king lead about 7-10 times and them tape them on. Brown wire coming from the switch. It will give a measured shot of gas to start but then relies on an rpm sense to continue flowing gas. No rpm no gas, other than the initial shot when you turn the key.

Had a good look around it today, have live going to all three solenoids until they close due to engine not starting (or stalling after a couple of second's on gas) So i flicked over to petrol, but with the gas still on. It didnt die at all but kept running. Checked all three solenoids again all had live feed, so i undid the rubber pipe going to the BLOS carb from the vaporizer. It had a faint smell of gas, so i slackened of the copper pipe into the vaporizer. There's definitely gas getting to it. So im guessing its an issue with the vaporizer. Im guessing a split diafram, its a simonini, but cant say ive heard of them prior to fitting it. So ive no idea of quality or spares availability.

So would it suggest the vaporizer has had it then ?

Certainly sounds that way, no need to replace like for like with a single point system, a Bigas M84 or OMVL R90E will do nicely on a LR V8. Does your existing one have a solenoid on the output? That may have stuck shut.

Yes it has, i ran a wire from the battery to the solenoid feeds just to check it wasn't a wiring issue and that they were staying open . But after less than a minute it started missing then conked out. So i guess its the vaporizer for sure.

'ang on a mo, running for a minute is a bit different and quite a long time. I'd still be suspicious of a wonky solenoid, wiring/coil. It's not unknown for coils to go open-circuit as they warm themselves up.
A split diaphragm gives uncontrolled too-much gas flow.

Just checked its a stefinelli vaporizer, not sure if solenoids are a universal sizes. So for piece of mind id rather change the vaporizer. Changed the coil earlier to a new pertronix item.
