2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 hemi

Just had jeep converted to King system installed by Polish guys in Leeds, on journey home engine light came on after approx 40 mins, rang the guys and they said this was normal!! Have scanned and got 4 dtc's P0171 current and pending as well as P0174 current and pending. Both are system too lean (bank 1 and 2). Is it just a case of increasing gas flow into injectors?
Also after the installation I noticed a new plug into the OBD2 connection below the dash, reading up points me in the direction of a K-line!! is this correct and what does it do?
Thanks
Baz

Sounds like either the gas flow from the reducer or the injector nozzles or injectors are not up to the job in all honesty. Generally you just solder a wire into the back of the diagnostic socket. A 2006 jeep will be can bus and not k line. It monitors the fuel trims and adjusts the amount of fuel using a correction factor. As long as there is enough gas to correct the fuelling. Which it doesn't look like there is.

thanks for the quick reply, is there a way of proving this point? (not enough gas going in)
Thanks

i think this proves the point , that you did,nt listen when asking for advise originally on what system to go for.You have got what you paid for .No its not normal for lean running codes ,it just proves that you have had a hastilly installed cheapo system done probably miles from where you live, choice based on price alone.
sorry you made a bad choice

Engine check light coming on..code too lean on banks 1+2. Obviously you need to take it back to the installer. This is not normal. It's got a problem, it may be a tuning issue ?? If so then it's sortable. If it isn't a tuning issue its a gas supply problem somewhere. Just where. That's the problem.

Thanks Tubbs, will do.
Woody, you do not know the background dont assume when you do not know, The installer is 15 miles away, it was not a cheapo and I had much more trouble with the prinz on my disco 2 - if you dont know, dont assume or better still dont comment.

In woody's defence there was a chap before Christmas wanting a conversion on the same motor ... He couldn't see why a polish system wouldn't be able to cope with a high demand engine like yours.
I'm sure that's who he was thinking you where. Hope you get it sorted.

Been back to installer today, took jeep out and had jeep mapped on petrol then re-mapped on gas, gas did show running lean on part of the map. Re-tuned gas map on run back to garage and all seems ok, installer said to return with any problems. Jobs a good un.

so how do you get around this with your customers that live miles and miles away?

I fit a system thats good from day one. Obd connected up and let the system sort it out itself. If you fit a mix and match system, i.e king ecu, omvl injectors and a KME gold reducer you are bound to have problems. If its like the system i install, ok its an AEB based ecu but the firmware is only capable of supporting EMER injectors and an EMER reducer. Bit like the old debate with apple and windoze really. Windoze is a mix and match system. you have any numbers of sound and graphics cards hung on any number of motherboards and any number of processors. And you have problems. Apple have designed the architecture of their operating system from the ground up. They are still using an intel processor just like windoze can. The same way that EMER are using an aeb ecu. But without a million options for injectors, reducers etc. You can concentrate on doing one thing really well or give as many options to mix and match as possible and do it really badly. Simple.

Take the time to set it up properly, roadtest with the laptop hooked up etc. Getting it right first time is important.
We do invite new installs back after 2,000 miles or so, for a onceover for security etc. and a check of setup in case of any settling drift (there rarely is these days)
My guess is that this kit was put on and not set up at all ("we'll let the OBD thingy sort it out"), its quick, cheap, and in this case didn't work.

Yeh I agree. I think a lot of installers think that as long as you connect up the obd wire it will just do it all without any intervention. And on some cars the autocal/obd wire will often do. But often it requires a bit more time and attention. A decent stable reducer helps a lot too.

Hello Rossko and Tubbs, just to put you in the picture, after installation the jeep was taken out for 35mins with the laptop on to get tht initial mapping, I know cos I was there waiting to pick it up, they did not rely on the OBD connection only.
