Leaking pipe from tank to engine compartment

I scraped the bottom of the car and it looks like I've damaged the LPG pipe. The car still runs on LPG, but I only get half the mpg I used to and I can smell gas when stationary. How can I test if it leaks without killing myself? Soapy water on the scraped bit with the engine running seems the obvious method.

If the pipe is indeed leaking how should I fix it? Can I cut it and reconnect with some hose and jubilee clips? Or do I need to get the whole pipe replaced by a professional?

The nose is quite effective. If you can see scrapy damage on copper or plastic pipe, you ought to renew it, leaking or not.

Don't even consider it, this is high pressure stuff, and propane can rot many 'rubber' hoses. In any case, you don't want to introduce any more joints than you have, best to replace the complete length of run.

That might the quickest/safest option in the long run, bearing in mind it may be finicky to get at the tank end, possibly needing tank removal. They might well be able to re-route the pipe away from risk of it all happening again.
