Always tick the default box after setup that way you can control the stepper above or below a fixed value that way if an o2 sensor does go wrong the system can't drift to far out. Idle steps above and below & out of idle are usualy set at 25 &40 above & below

I followed the brown wire (as well as a purple / lilac wire) from the control box plug, it goes to the vehicle diagnostic socket (not the OBD plug - most Toyotas have a "DIAGNOSTIC SOCKET" as well as a OBD plug) it looks like it is connected firmly. ( I guess I could try a volt meter and see what reading I get)

So the brown wire is not connected to the coil - but the diagnostic plug - OK?

If that socket has a rev counter feed to it, they've probably connected to that. As long as it connects to something that has regular pulses on it to tell the controller that the engine is running, what you actually connect to is not important. Does that socket have a rev counter output and does it work?
