That'll be the right way up. Looks like an Emer valve with correct orientation.
Doesn't matter what make a single hole tank is, it's all down to getting the multivalve fitted in the correct orientation.

Emer did also make 'upside down' valves - these valves fit onto the tank with the valve in the same orientation but with the tank upside down so the multivalve sits near the side top of the tank rather than near the side bottom of the tank. Upside down valves have a longer fuel pickup pipe and different float arrangement so it's unlikely anyone would make the mistake of fitting an upside down tank valve on a usual way up tank. You'll have a usual way up valve on a usual way up tank, all good.

thank s Simon , the problem here is i have no idea of which way up the tank was fitted originally .

Tank laid flat so wider than it is tall.
Valve near bottom end of circumference.

Simon , do you know , does that yellow shut off lever close the fill point or the feed to the engine take off ? i would like to fit a 8mm solenoid valve to it , but it has gas in .

It will close the output from the tank.

ah ,excellent thank you Brian , now i have to find a 8mm high flow version ..

I'd suspect that means you'd need a new multivalve to match the tank, Don't think its just a case of swapping the solenoid/post as the pickup behind that would still be restricted.

yes its looking like 50 to 60 quid for a 8mm outlet one .

and that then leaves you with a problem as there's no way you can swap the multivalve with a tankful of gas.....

True, guess he will have to find a way to use the contents up first.

Chaps , if you look at the picture of the tank you can see the level is pretty low .

found this ..

only thnig is my tank is 250mm not 270...research continues ...

The pickup tube will be in the right place so the only thing that will be different is likely to be the float that operates the level sender and the 80% cut off. I would suspect with a bit of precision bending you should be able to make it work.

Thinking about it, if you shortened the wire arm then you would be able to retain the full arc of movement but over a 250mm range rather than 270mm.

If you can trust lpgshop not to screw it up and send something else, this i think should be what you want
https://www.lpgshop.co.uk/240-250mm-8mm ... ultivalve/

I'd phone them or email them and check they actually have stock of the right thing before ordering it though.
Tinley don't appear to have anything on their website, but this may just be that i can't find it, it may be worth asking them after the holiday break.

Or.... i could leave it as it is and get more in the tank ! ;)

i suppose the q now is , which will flow more, the atiker or the tomasetti ?

It probably won't stop though, I'd imagine you'd hit the top of the tank first before it cuts off. Trouble with that is you can find it then stops the one way valve operating and starts emptying the tank through it when you disconnect!

On the flow question hard to say, Simon might have an answer there with any luck.

Shutoff valves generally shut off both the outlet and the inlet ports.

Tinley seem to have been out of stock of valves with 8mm outlet for a while, LPG shop seem to have everything in stock they list on their website including 8mm outlet Tomasetto Valves.

I recently fitted 2x 8mm outlet tanks on a Porsche Cayenne V8NA I converted, one of the tanks came from Tinley, LPGshop didn't have stock of that tank (in the dimensions I needed)... So a tank came from one supplier, it's valve from another.

It is possible to change valves without loosing all the gas, the temperature has to be cold (as it is now) and you'll still lose most of the gas and will risk frostbite... But on many occasions I've looked into tanks and seen extremely cold liquid gas just swilling around (and a little stream of liquid gas running down the yard destroying tarmac). The best bet by far is to let the engine use all the gas out of the tank before trying to swap valves, or even let it go to waste rather than try to swap valves with gas in the tank.

yup , i think i will just vent the gas ,and pop it in dry ;)

any idea which valve will flow the most simon ?

Much simplified - A valve stamped 250mm will shut off incoming (fill) gas at 80% of 250mm = 200mm, stamped 270mm will shut off gas at 216mm. A valve stamped 270mm in a 250mm tall tank will still shut off incoming gas at 216mm depth which would be 86.4% full... Good. Unless the float arm is too long and catches on the other end of the tank in which case it will never raise high enough to shut off incoming gas.

I intend on buying a vacuum pump. Why? Because in this weather (cold) many forecourt pumps only pump gas at 8 bar pressure. The LPG in forecourt bulk storage tanks and in vehicle tanks won't be at as high a pressure as 8 bar in this weather... So the limiting factor in how much gas you can get in the tank becomes air pressure in the tank. If pump pressure is 8 bar (and LPG pressure is lower) and you fill the tank (that had valve fitted when the tank still contained atmospheric pressure air) at that forecourt the limiting factor in terms of how much gas you can put in is due to air pressure in the tank. If you reduce the amount of space for air to be in in the tank to 10% of the tank's original volume (to fill the gas tank to 90% full of LPG) the gas pump pressure would have to be above 9 bar.
