LPG Prices - Concerns

Dear Martin; Six months ago I invested money into my car and opted to have an LPG conversion installed. Not only to save a pretty penny in running costs, but also to do my ‘part’ in helping the environment. Back when I had the conversion done people could drive into almost any filling station and pay 37.5p/L for LPG, whilst petrol was well into the 90’s! Due to the price of oil and the on-going price war on petrol it seems us LPG users are being used as the ‘fall guy’ and as petrol prices have been driven down, we have to pay record prices which now sit ~46.9p/L! ...cont

I understand that profits need to be made, but it seems apparent that the forecourt and oil companies are loading LPG fuel costs to support they’re relentless battle with competing in the petrol market and many of us have had enough! If the Government is serious about reducing pollution on our roads then they need to do something about these price hikes, and quickly. What seems like a small change makes the cost of conversion on a car uneconomical (based on an car being kept for 3 year on average) so we will find the recent surge in LPG conversions stop and the market will once again shift towards Diesel again – which as we both know, pump out some of the nastiest toxins around! So, to cut a long email short - what can be done? The LPG community who actually care about the environment is far too small to be heard by the oil giants, so we need help to make the environmental option a viable option again. I know one thing. if I was a converter/installer for a living, I would be hammering the MP's relentlessly....because my livelihood would be at great risk. all the best.mark

I would disagree with the comment about the Gulf of Mexico . I work for a Chemical company which has plants in the area which was affected . These plants were shut down safely before the storm but were back up to capacity within a week after the storm . There was minimal shut down for these companies and the same was with the rigs . They were shut down safely and restarted very quickly.

Mine's working out at about 10p/mile. Lexus GS300 3 litre, 218bhp, Romano SVI.
