OMVL DREAM XXI - P1003 Reducer Solenoid Valve problem

I have an Audi A4 3.0 quattro fitted with a OMVL Dream XXI fast reg lpg system, which I believe was fitted in 2009ish. After 2 years and 15k miles of trouble free motoring, coming home from work last week it reached operating temperature, went for changeover and after a second of hesitation the button started beeping. Not the usual beeping of run out of gas, a longer more prominent beep, and just stays on petrol.

I plugged it into my the laptop and the diagnosis light was lit up on the screen and it was displaying P1003 reducer solenoid valve. I've tried googleing this code but couldn't find anything?



Before the lead would work I had to connect 12v to the diagnostic lead, not sure if this is related or just a coincidence. This was the first time I have plugged into this car. See here

I believe its the R90 fitted, but access is very difficult as the bay is so full, its located behind the bumper by the foglight.

I did just manage to get the solenoid plug off and wasn't getting 12v. Checked the rear tank solenoid and that too has no voltage. The tank gauge was showing a full tank of gas.

does this sound familiar to anyone and where would the first places to start searching?

The controller will have two power feeds, a permanent live and an ignition switched live. It's quite possible that the permanent live is the one that is fed to the solenoid valves (and also the diagnostic socket maybe?) and isn't there. Or it was there and the fuse has blown because one of your solenoid coils has gone short circuit internally and taken the fuse out. Disconnect the plugs to them and put your meter across the terminals, they should be something like 15 Ohms. If you can't get at the one on the reducer, disconnect at the tank solenoid and see what resistance you measure across the wires as the two coils will be wired in parallel.

It won't be an R90 as that is a reducer for a singlepoint system but the OMVL regulators all look similar.

Tested the rear solenoid and got 13ohms, tested the front one and got 1ohm? I could just get in there to remove the front one and it was sieezed on, but with alot of wiggleing it came off. Doesnt look great though.

Looks like you need to get a replacement solenoid - 1ohm is pretty much a dead short circuit inside. Its probably blown the fuse as previously mentioned by Gillbertd as well.

Another update I remembered I had a dodgy old single point injection setup in the shed, had a look and the solenoid is the same but with different connectors. Tried it with some spade connectors, reset the fault code hey presto it all works!

Ive no idea on how old this one is so will replace it to be safe. Any suggestions on the cheapest reliable place to get a new solenoid?

Try Tinley Tech. Their website lists replacement coils for tank solenoids but not vaporiser ones but they can probably match it up if you give them the dimensions.

If Tinley can't source one for you then autogas 2000 > http://www.autogasshop.co.uk probably can. I've had bits from both of them in the past without any problems.
