My local garage is 77p per litre, but in Milton Keynes (30 miles North of me) I saw it yesterday for 67p???

10p per litre is quite a difference......

35p per litre if bought from the right place in forklift bottles, but of course that would be illegal unless you pay the road duty for the gas used.... illegal, but untraceable once it's in your tank.

Prices around Heathrow area have jumped from 69.9 to 75,9 in most garages,dont know why?

Countrywide have gone up a penny a litre. They say its to do with winter demand. And will bring the price down as soon as possible. And to be fair they generally do.

Where did you see it in mk at that price? cheapest i've seen is 69.9 at the shell near j14. the other 3 outlets i know do it are all more expensive at the min here.

It was the Shell?? garage at the bottom of the A5 near the new McDonalds. Just south of Bletchley/Fenny Stratford.

interesting - they never used to do it at that one if its the one i think you mean. Unless you mean the grovebury one in Leighton Buzzard I know thats been cheaper than MK. Either way pricing info as you have probably guessed from above link check out filllpg - Theres apps for your phone to use with it as well so you can check/update prices as you see them.

Pretty much all 3 of my local places have gone up considerably. One was 59.9 now 68.9, most local now 77.9. Always seems to go up a bit over winter/christmas, then drops, then up again for August holidays.

Notice many stations in filllpg not been updated in months. Making sure I add my prices regularly, would ask others to do the same if they can as it helps all of us.

ASDA at Monks Cross, York is now 68.9 (iirc!) and they're usually the cheapest around. They've been 67.9 most of the summer. On the other hand, the garage on the A64 which is nearer is now 69.9 instead of 75p so I'm happy overall

I pay 74.9 a Litre at the nearest Shell station but if I can make it to Flogas before it shuts it's only 65.9 a Litre which is a big difference.

It's 67.9 in Morrisons in Bargoed (S-Wales) and i think around a penny more expensive at Profess just up the road so not so bad. I've been happily saving money and have actually been able to use my Cayenne Turbo everyday since being LPG converted

73.9 pence per litre at the Cherry Tree Farm services on the A50/A38 near Derby. It's the nearest station to where I live and I pass it on the way to work.

I have been asked 'hypothetically' by PM how to get bottled gas into a vehicle LPG tank.

To fill the vehicle's tank from a bottle requires a propane pump and correct fittings / piping to connect to the bottle and the vehicle filler. Manually operated / electronic pumps are available.

I have known people to secure gas bottles to vehicles (externally) and run directly from bottled gas. For road vehicles this is illegal because gas bottles don't meet road vehicle LPG tank spec.. The situation is of course different for fork lift trucks and may (don't quote me) be different for vehicles used exclusively off road.

It isn't illegal to fill a vehicle tank from a bottle as long as the correct road fuel duties are paid. If using a manual or electric pump to refuel the vehicle tank the pump output must be at the correct pressure.

If running directly from a bottle the bottle must be external even for off road vehicles!! Vehicle LPG tanks have safety measures that bottles do not have. Vehicle LPG tanks are built much stronger than bottles, have the correct fixing points to install on a vehicle, have a built in automatic 80% fill shut off, an over-pressure release valve, a system of enclosing all the pipe connections to the tank designed so that if there are any leaks on any of the fittings or piping the leaked gas (or any gas vented from the over-pressure release system) would be vented external of the vehicle. Most vehicle tanks have a built in electronic gas shut off valve.

Vehicle LPG systems need a liquid feed. Forklift bottles have an internal liquid gas pick up tube so do provide a liquid feed. Caravan type bottles etc don't have an internal pickup pipe so they only provide a vapour feed and cannot be used on vehicles (not when they are orientated the correct way anyway).

Since forklifts use bottled gas and are used indoors, some people believe that it must be safe to run their vehicle on bottles. This isn't the case! The bottle isn't mounted internally on forklift trucks, so there is a much lower chance of the driver (and possibly passengers) getting gassed in the event of a leak! Any leak on a proper vehicle LPG tank would be vented outside the vehicle and the leak would stop as soon as the driver switched back to petrol or turned off the engine.. A leak from connections to a portable tank would continue until the tank was empty (or someone still conscious manages to turn off the bottle stop valve and open the doors to prevent everyone getting gassed)!

Pipe fittings are available to do all of the above.
Fittings are also available to refill gas bottles at places that sell Autogas etc. Refilling gas bottles is extremely dangerous!!! As said above, LPG tanks have a built in 80% fill limiter but portable bottles do not. It is easily possible to overfill a portable bottle. Overfilling a portable bottle means one of two things will happen - Either the bottle will explode or the tank blow off valve will open and the tank will empty it's contents into the surrounding area... If the tank is inside the vehicle then the surrounding area would be the interior of the vehicle!
