Transferring a Tartarini System

#1 Post by h4house »

Not sure if I should post here or in the Find and Installer section, so forgive me if I've got it wrong.

My much loved MG ZT v6 has finally bitten the dust and be consigned to the crusher. It was fitted with a Tartarini Sequential LPG system which worked very well. I had had to go back to my old Subaru Forester 2.5 XT which drinks petrol like no tomorrow. Hence I'd like to fit the Tartarini system I have removed from the MG to the Subaru. I have salvaged everything apart from the pipe connecting the tank to the front of the car.

The MG isn't my first experience with LPG. I've had a couple converted and bought a couple that have been previously converted. My experience with some converters has been less than cheerful. My worst by far was with another Subaru Forester which I took to one of those - 'convert the car in one day places'. Nothing but problems. But then I have also taken cars to more expensive/established places and had disappointing experiences.

My questions are...

1. I was thinking of doing the conversion myself (out of desperation I have serviced all my previous systems and feel quite confident). My concern is how to get is certified? Would I be better fitting the major components then getting someone else to do all the connecting up and certify it?

2. Is transferring a system feasible? Especially since the MG was a V6 while the Subaru is a flat 4, 180bhp and 230bhp respectively. Does the fact that the Tartarini ECU says it is for 5,6,8 cylinder cars mean it will not work?

I am based in Kent and there don't appear to be many Tartarini installers about. The whole system apart from the tank and the injectors are Tartarini. I had to replace the injectors with Valtek when they started to fail.

Many thanks,

Alan.

I think most installers dislike taking over a half done job. I would certainly prefer to start from scratch. Would have to speak with local installers to see if they will do an inspection for you.

You can use the 4/6/8 cyl ecu on a 4 cylinder car. I do see the odd tartarini system here but they are not that common. I have a customer with one that has been on 10 years and he comes to me for a service every year with it.

I've had a run of fitting second hand systems the past few months for some reason. Not my preferred work but still does not stop you doing a neat job.
