jump started another car now LPG not working?
jump started another car now LPG not working?
My mate just tried (unsuccessfully) to jump start his car using my car and after failing I go to give him a lift and 2 minutes in of driving my car the lpg button in my car makes a noise and turns itself off, it's never done this before. so I'm running on petrol, I press the button to turn it back on and the noise goes again and lpg system has shut down. Repeatdly does this so now I can't run at all on lpg but there's a half tank in there apparently. It's an lpgtech system. Any ideas why? Surely its related to the jumpstarting attempt, Im pissed off with him because I think he's mucked up my lpg electronics!
Any ideas would be appreciated.

you think there is LPG in the tank, try putting some in to be sure, when was the last time it was serviced ? does it run flashlube ?
I have know LPG systems to turn themselves off if flashlube is empty

Probably what has happened is that the the earth wire or positive wire for the LPG ecu has broken off from the crimp connector that it was soldered/crimped to (one the battery terminals). Easy enough to do when attaching the big clamps from the jump leads.
Look for broken wires dangling around the battery.

Re: jump started another car now LPG not working?
I've only had the car a few weeks so I'm not sure if it has flashlube or even what flashlube is ! I heard Flashlube is mainly used on fords and mine is a vauxhall corsa so don't think so. I wonder whether it is just an empty lpg tank, because that would mean the fuel gauge is dodgy because when the lpg is running properly it says got 1 or 2 notches left but when it first starts it says its red, so near empty. I presume it just needs to warm up a bit to get an accurate reading.
I will check the lose connection issue as well. Hopefully its that! Cheapest fix the better!

Ok guys. I left it a few days and the problem hasn't resolved itself.
Please please please can you watch the video ive uploaded. I've just started the car in cold weather, the lpg tank often registers as empty (red light) when cold. But ten seconds in my first Green light comes on to tell me I've got a bit left in there. But then that dreaded noise starts and everything switches off... please help!

I don't think anyone said it would.jdavis986 wrote:Ok guys. I left it a few days and the problem hasn't resolved itself.
You don't seem to have tried putting a splash in the tank, nor looked for any snagged off wires?
It may well have lost its setup as a result of a surge during jump starting; you'd need a special lead, laptop, software, and some knowledge to sort that out. That stuff would also enable you to see what it thinks is wrong if say there's a pulled off wire or somesuch.
Or you could get an LPG fitter to have a look.

My vehicle problems don't mend themselves either, although this method is something I have a lot of practice injdavis986 wrote:I left it a few days and the problem hasn't resolved itself.
As the lights come on for a while, I'm guessing it's not a fully broken wire but it still could be a damaged wire hanging on by a thread, which fails to carry any significant current once under load during switch over. But it's all speculation...not an easy one to diagnose over a forum.
It wouldn't do any harm to grab a copy of the software and the interface kit, then we'd be better placed to help you if you can post up screenshots etc.

it doesn't work like that, if it did it would be great thoughjdavis986 wrote:Ok guys. I left it a few days and the problem hasn't resolved itself.
dont trust the guage and put some gas in and see what happens.jdavis986 wrote:I've just started the car in cold weather, the lpg tank often registers as empty (red light) when cold. But ten seconds in my first Green light comes on to tell me I've got a bit left in there.

Yes you're all right. It was a dodgy gauge!! Sorry! I'm glad though because that's definitly the cheapest fix even though a bit embarrassing!
Re: jump started another car now LPG not working?
Glad it was that simple. It's not unreasonable to expect a simple level gauge to work, after all
just a shame that they rarely do
