completed my DIY lpg conversion on my maestro van..best ever

Decided to convert my van myself after going to the local lpg converter in Alrewas who wanted to charge me £300-400 to connect the gas up and test it...i'd basically done all the donkey work of installing everything leaving half a days work at most so told him to stuff it and tried doing it myself.
Had alot of problems trying to get it to run smooth on gas...tried tweeking mixture,changed spark plugs until finally i decided to change the spark leads...and wow what a difference! it completed transformed the running of it...runs like an absolute dream now.

I reccomend the Marini vapourisers...this is my second van with a marini one and seem to be very easy to set up...in fact it didnt need to be.

You can just imagine the thoughts of the LPG installer faced with some clapped out old Maestro with the rotting remains of an old single point LPG system thrown in. Either he thought that it would take at least 300 quids worth of labour to rip it all out and put something in that was safe, he didn't want his companies reputation to be ruined by having anything to do with such an install, or he feared for the safety of himself, his premises and staff so quoted a price that he figured was so high that the potential customer would go elsewhere or give up on the idea at all.

I'd love to see the result if his insurance company insisted that he had the install UKLPG certified and it had to be checked, but that will never happen as he almost certainly won't tell his insurance company.

Not sad, we just enjoy taking the p*ss out of some pillock who thinks he knows it all, doesn't give a sh*t about legalities and insists on driving something that even the Bulgarians not worth continuing to build. Lets face it, the Maestro was simply an Allegro with the doors kicked in and the Allegro very rapidly got the nickname of All Aggro.

Take your car in to a UKLPG registered installer and get it checked for compliance with the Code of Practice (which although only a voluntary code is underpinned by European safety legislation). If it passes with any modification, I'll take my words back. But I think I have a greater chance of winning the Euro millions jackpot than that happening (especially as I don't buy a ticket).

I`m afraid the guys are making the point here.You can install and run an LPG system but it doesn`t mean it`ll meet to CP11,therefore to issue a certificate a garage has to redo it and sometimes its less time consuming installing than redoing someones work.
