King ECU programming lead

Hi Guys,

Trying to get to the bottom of something, does anyone know if the communication to the ECU old school serial data or USB ?

I see right across the forum people using USB to serial converters and using com ports and still having issues.

Basically if its serial communication and your using a com port you should not have to have a converter, on the other hand if its USB why not just use a USB cable with the right plug on it.

I would like to build my own due to time constraints ( I would like to program it today) but can find very little accurate info on the cable for the KING system on the net or the forums. So if anyone has any information on the cable I would be very grateful

It's TTL out of the ECU, which needs to be converted to RS232 levels, or USB before connecting to your laptop.

USB will work fine provided you have the correct USB drivers for the lead. You also often need to switch over the 2 middle wires in the KING diagnostic plug

It's a serial connection but as most laptops don't come with a serial port any longer, it is necessary to use a USB to serial converter. If you have a serial port, then the following diagram for a cable will work with just about all systems as long as you get the connections to the ECU right.
